FGM-148 Javelin
Looks like we might be getting the Javelin with the USMC faction. How big of a difference is this going to be when it comes to the game?

Is it going to retain the ability to lock on to anything? What effect is this going to have on helicopters?

And please tell me that I am going to be able to lock on to people.

Be interesting to see If they Add in top attack or make it use the direct fire mode. If they do add top attack then locking on will be A little necessary.

No matter the mode it still has to lock on. What I am mostly wondering is if it will allow you to lock on to any hot object in the game.

I also wonder if the British might get the launcher as well.

It will probably be something basic like the TOW, doubt they make it like the BF3 version
I'd hope that it doesn't feel super gamey. I'd hate for it to only have the ability to lock on to vehicles like you would see in Battlefield. I hope they've gone all in on it. I think that they have had the model around at least since before the British were released.
Can Javelins lock on to helos irl?

Would be sweet to have them in both direct and top fire mode for ground vehicles at least.

Not sure if they actually can lock on to arbitrary targets (as in infantry).

Javelins are anti everything. They use an infrared seeker. As long as it has a heat signature it can track it. Of course that all depends on the local conditions (hot target on hot background, etc.) Here is a Green Beret and SEAL talking about the wonders of the Javelin.

Now that I think of it, if we are getting Javelins, then that means that there will at least be the groundwork for thermal imaging systems in vehicles. At best we might even see that functionality added along with it.
Very cool.
Good point with the thermal imaging, they have been asking if we want that in the last few surveys.
I think we have some balancing issues soon if we get javelins and thermals.
I personally hope they wont add any kind of thermals in the game.Sure it would make alot more sense if the mordern vehicles/weapon systems had thermal imaging but that would be a pretty huge advantage. Also just think about the TKs that will happen if you got thermals in a MBT/IFV..

I think if they add that thing it will most likely only be able to lock onto ground vehicles.Anyhow it would make the USMC the most effective AT faction if they add it.
Javelin would be cool . However they would have too add some balance to it . Maybe make it drain stamina faster on soldier carrying it. I've carried them and they're heavy and most of all cumbersome . Especially with the CLU system as well. You can lock on to pretty much any vehicle. Ground vics or heli. Side and top down fire methods. While it be fun they would need to balance it carefully or you are talking insta kills on any vic with a somewhat competent shooter .

Edit: if they are introducing it with USMC then the US Army will get it too. It is widely used in the Army. Every light infantry company has ( usually ) due to MTOE , a javelin gunner in each platoon. 3 platoons. 3 jav gunners in a company. Also , army regularly carried paz 13 thermal device . Hopefully they dont add that though because it be super hard to balance lol.

I heard someone mention that the Marines might not be getting Abrams when they come to the game and that the Javelin might be balanced in that way. Sounds like speculation to me but doesn't sound completely out of the question. It might not go anywhere other than the Marines for that reason alone.

I imagine that, regardless of who gets it in-game, it will probably cost a whole ton of supply points to rearm. Maybe they will make it so that the cost for resupply is so high that it cannot be rearmed at an ammo bag.
To those talking about "arcadey" you do realize things like the javalin locking on to anything is fact and realistic....
