Fix Shadows and add more foliage/grass
player models stick out like sore thumbs due to the lack of shadows and detail in the environment. Will this ever be confronted? Or can we just assume this game will join almost all but a few gamesin the "i can see everything that moves past x feet easily"? (arma did pretty well with close range.. as well as keep foliage thick at long distance)

If a player is taking cover under a tree or under a bridge or in brush, shadows don't help you. The shade change is fairly minimal, all things considered.

On many of the non-desert maps, the foliage and grass is SORELY lacking. In combination of this and the poor shading color differences causes everything to stick out like a sore thumb.

I assume different combinations of graphics options being configured will affect this.

No point in comparing this game to Arma, totally different engines.

I believe arma uses the trick of literally making the player model invisible when behind cover that isn’t rendered.

Engines don't matter. Just about every single engine is capable of great shadows and foliage/grass, but the Squad developers haven't been iterating on these things that play a crucial role in the game (imo).

Engines do matter, as different engines are capable of different things.

Do you realize this game is made with Unreal Engine? That engine has some of the best shadow and lighting work of all engines out there. It is NOT the engine. It IS the developers.

Yes, because small strictly liniar single/small multiplayer games have the same preformance restrictions vs market PC variation as large mapped multiplayer games.

Its really not that hard to hide in Squad, at any range, if you maintain awareness.

I dont know why people keep going back to the Arma series as an example of a good game engine preformance wise, its a complete mess on so many levels it makes Bethesda blush.

i put Shadows on low so i will see you all anyway

Does Arma use the unreal engine.

Engine wise Arma had some of the worst net code out there, likely because it was built up from code that was used for VBS which was geared towards LAN infrastructure. Graphically very nice but playing online was a struggle.

I'm the same too I turn it to low.

Basically the settings in the game can be turned down low to remove grass etc so until they get locked where we can't turn it down then shadows is a waste of time.

I hate the constant dev butt kissing that goes on in every thread. Someone rightly points out how important shadows are, and you try to change the subject to something that doesn't even make sense given every other game made with this engine has good shadows or workarounds. Stick to the threads subject

There is a difference between pointing something problematic out and acting like its the end of the world. No dev kissing required, but it works both ways.
The actual answer to the problem is obvious and already in place. Force high quality shadows on everyones game. But given the recent and continued preformace problems, how do you think that will work out?
It's the same for other games as well. It's not like devs choose to have s***y shadows on purpose, they do so because they know not everyone has NSA computers. And to ignore that is exclusionary.
