How do you start SL'ing?
I want to be able to gain experience (as a SL) and advance my leadership and decision making skills but I dont want to join a game and have no idea what i'm doing and having my squad mates endure my inexperience of leading. If you're SL, how did you start squad leading? I have about 230hrs of medic but i played PR for well over 1,000 so I think i want to start taking command sometimes.

I would advice you to sit on the defence then leap to the next cap when the other squads get it. You are attacking or defending one of the two, learning to read the map is good for instance when a objective is being taken you will see a bar going down on that cap if you zoom in on it on the map.

Also if nobody is defending when the other squads start taking the objective infront what will happen is a double neutral if enemies are on your defence flag you wont be able to take the next point until somebody clears the one behind but if everybody leaves the flag you started taking they will get the point behind,

As a new squadleader i would advice you to do what i say but others will tell you to read guides and over complicate the game.

Once you can read the map i would say try attacking instead of defending instead just know when to go back,

if you have any questions you can add me, :)

I began squad leading primarily for unassigned players. When players join my squad, I consistently told them, "Hey, guys, I'm a new to squad leading. I hope you have any advice along the way."

It's gonna be a boring few games but thats actually a good point I didnt think about the defensive aspect. Thanks for the advice!

I'm unsure whether that answered your question.

Any advice is helpful. What I take from your post is not the create a squad at the beginning but wait after the main squads get established so i can cleanup the unassaigned players so that way im not as vital. Thanks for the advice!

Good advice, Defending is very fun and its also one of the most important roles but you will find what you are good at in due time and what works and what does not squadleading is really a learning curve nobody can teach you, good luck comrad

Ah, I understand now. Objectives are main priority over anything else.

If you are playing on the defensive, I would recommend establishing two HAB's, one on the objective and the other far back from the objective. These are your life lines to defend the objective. In general, keep defending until the offensive squads has captured the hostile objective.

If you would like to play on the offensive, always make full use of the Rally Point. This is another life line to keep pressure on the hostile objective. In a situation where two offensive squads including yourself are there, attack from different angles.

Sorry if my advice is a jumbled mess, I'm still an amateur squad lead.

Before SL'ing, I played a few of the kits to master them first so I can better know how to lead my squad, knowing what the strengths of each class are (this is so I can divide certain people in certain fireteams like AT). When first SL'ing I did the menial tasks. Think of it as you being new to the position, so you don't carry all the responsibility. Be a Logi supply SL or mortar SL. Volunteer to take the back-caps so you can ease into the round squad leading. Start off with a smaller squad size by locking your squad to just a few people and unlocking when you feel you can handle more players.

you have imo about the perfect amount of hours to start, i started around the same time after playing medic and rifleman

you know some things that make you want to play with a squad and some things you hated about being in a squad, be the guy you wanted to play with

after that its all experience, unless you want to read a novel

Ensure you keep your kittens in line and be sure to kick those that lone-wolf or disregard your orders. You're the brain child of eight other men, you lead by example for the most part. The key to SL is communication first and foremost, be sure to talk to other SL's and dont be afraid to suggest something!

There's an excellent series of video guides by a guy named "Captain" on youtube. I strongly advise watching his entire series multiple times through (5 hours total, so far).

There are only two places on the map that matter at any given time: the attack objective, and the defense objective.

It is your job to get your squad onto one of those two objectives and provide a place for them to spawn in (Rally / HAB). Every second that your whole squad isn't on an objective is wasted potential for your team.

You have eight "fighters" in your squad. Leave the fighting to them. Your job is communicating with the other squad leaders and making sure your squad is where they should be and has the resources they need to keep fighting (Ammo crates, Ammo and Construction Supplies).

FOB placement: You want to double FOB and double HAB / Ammo crate every objective. When defending, have one FOB/HAB on the objective and one FOB/HAB outside of the objective and hidden in a forest or defilade. Don't waste time building anything on the outside FOB/HAB besides an ammo crate. Feel free to super FOB on the objective, prioritize a repair station for friendly armor. Don't go overboard on emplacements or sandbags. When attacking, build your FOB in a place the enemy isn't expecting an attack.

SL Priorities:
1) Get your squad on an objective, and communicate your intentions to other squad leaders.
2) Spread out around the objective. 360 degree coverage.
3) Build spawn points.
4) Find and destroy enemy spawn points.
5) Communicate with other squad leaders to encourage them to get their squads on an objective.

SL Communication:
1) Tell other other squad leaders your intention. (Moving to X to setup a defense.)
2) Update other squad leaders if your squad is changing objectives. (Squad X moving to Y to do Z.)
3) Use the map to place markers and indicate your intentions.
4) Call out enemy armor, spawn points, and contact relevant to your objective.
5) Tell the other SL's if you can't hold / capture your current objective without support.

Know what you're going to say before you hit "G". Brevity is brilliant.

this playlist will help you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHMVYzGPI_0&list=PLqk34oGYBUDlSttNQmSra0LOrAta_Ub_N

lock your squad when it reaches to 5 with you and play a few matches with that small squad. easier to control. in addition, if you have friends who know the game give them bravo-charlie leader and they will support you.

To be honest, I started SLing around 200hrs and I just named my squad "I can't SL for jack" lmao. If you have the basics down, it probably won't go to the pits of hell even if you make some mistakes

This honestly answers your question 100%
