Are we ever going to get the ability to fire a COAXIAL machine gun without unloading the main guns' shell?
I get if you're in a T-72 and wanting to load an ATGM. Fair enough, you obviously have to unload the breech. But for firing MGs, firing secondary TOWs, etc, there's zero reason that you should have to load a new shell just because you swapped to MG for a second to mow down some infantry.

Why don't you just get a guy to man that gun full time, it's an MBT it fits 3 people.

To be fair no because I just saw swapped, like he swapped seat. But even if he just swapped weapon in the same seat, got to have some kind of cool down otherwise infantry/vehicles don't get a chance between the TOW or MG. Otherwise why not let AT keep the rocket loaded for instant use.

Last I checked, the coaxial MG is fired by the gunner, on account of it being seated in the turret, and typically is aligned pretty nicely alongside the main gun. Seems to me that it makes a fair bit of sense to be fired by the gunner and not the commander, whose job is to fire the rooftop MG and spot targets.

I can only assume that it is the result of how the inventory system works in game. I'm sure that the devs will eventually get to working on it. Look through the backlog of similar threads and I think Gatzby has responded a couple times on it.

Doesn't make sense. Post Scriptum is built on the exact same engine and tanks behave exactly the same except for gunners using WASD to aim gun rather than mouse, and there you use numkey to select shell and RMB to fire coax. I've not played in a while, but I don't even recall RMB doing anything worthwhile in a tank, so there's no reason it wouldn't work.

Like I've said in tons of threads when people complain that the coax should be on the RMB, no it shouldn't. There is a toggle switch in the Abrams.

Hopefully a proper FCS will be added at some point to give us automatic ranging. Then RMB will have a nice use.

Either way. Different game. Different devs. Different priorities.
Lord Gronor 2020 年 5 月 6 日 下午 10:09
And does that Abrams toggle switch also open up the breech and send the shell back into the loader's hands where he then has to put it back on the ammo rack, and only has permission to reload the shell once the gunner decides to stop firing the MG? No.
RMB, spacebar, using the switch, even hitting freaking F12 to use the MG would be a more logical option to what we have right now. Squad's basically just been floundering for years now when it comes to vehicles. Mediocre damage models, shells being unloaded for no reason, no thermals, no FCS, 70 ton tanks going 60kph getting hung up on a twig, vehicles that can't climb hills without screeching wheels the entire time as they go up at 2kph... For a $40 game that's been out this long, the lack of QoL changes for simple ♥♥♥♥ gets old.

Never did I say that it should have to be reloaded.

squad developers don't care about vehicles if you haven't learned yet. HE has been nerfed to the point you need to hit a guy in between the feet with 3 rounds to kill them. because of the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ game engine a main battle tank going max speed gets stopped by a tree so small you can knock down by stepping on it. vehicle v vehicle and vehicle v infantry combat is completely ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and i don't think they're even gonna balance it anymore.

I know you didn't. I was just making a point that I'd rather an unfaithful to IRL way to fire the coax, than the system we have currently ingame.
Seven 2020 年 5 月 7 日 上午 9:56
I would also like to know the reasoning behind having to reload or make ready the heavier weapons every time you get out, switch seat, or change weapon. Examples are the MRAPs, bulldogs, techies, all machine gun emplacements, LATs, HATs, and GLs. Maybe it's just an inventory issue but that doesn't make sense because there's no re-reload for TOWs and ZSU.

The feeling I got from a dev response to on of these threads was that they might be looking to do a complete overhaul before release. I'm sure that something is planned for some point in the future but who knows what that date is going to be. Hopefully that they now have some engine things fixed up they can get back to their usual update schedual.

Alright this seems to have gone off the rails. Yes the devs will most likely implement this, currently the way the game is set up and the way weapon types are switched make it difficult to code. You essentially have 2 weapons at the same time on 2 separate button presses. Post Scriptum (Squads sister game) was able to do it by basically brute forcing it to work but if they ever do an update bruteforced code could completely break. Which is why they haven't pushed right click coax yet, since they are still working on optimization and stabilization. Why add a feature when it will potentially break after every update right? It will most likely get released along with 1.0 and the 2 new factions

Except post scriptum has had plenty of updates, and none of them have ever caused any issues with MGs. In fact, aside from crashing issues after the Day of Days update, I've had no issues with the game. It honestly just feels like a WW2 version of Squad, except it's more polished in almost every way.
