The first squad that fills up usually gets the HAT, and there's only 1 HAT per team
Why would there be more snipers than HATs on the field? Will we see more role variation in the near future?

Those aren’t snipers they are marksmen. And if you’re talking about the rifle, it is neither. And it would make sense that each squad should have an opportunity to a marksman position. Each squad also has the opportunity for anti-tank abilities. But HAT is limited to one per team because it can one shot most vehicles and the teams aren’t big enough to support more vehicles at any one time. So two HATs could take out 2 out of 2 or 3 armor right away.

Marksman provide the ability for a squad to engage targets a bit more accurately and at slightly further ranges effectively. They are essentially just a slightly more powerful rifle and optic. The Heavy Anti-Tank role however gives a squad (or team) the ability to not only engage enemy armored units, but to do so with devastating power. This is why more Marksmen are available to a team than Heavy Anti-Tank.

It's also important to note that while 3 Marksmen are available, there are not always three in the field, as proactive squad leaders tend to have fire support roles swap from roles such as marksmen to pick up roles that better suit their conditions, such as Light Anti-Tank

Let's toss the Marksman role, balance and damage models completely out of the window and just focus on HAT role and how it is acquired in-game:

The match starts up. Squad 1 is created and filled up instantly. Squad 1 takes HAT.
Forty one other players are still waiting for another Squad to be created. Squad 2 opens up. Only LAT. The first Squad created will always get dibs on HAT. What will you devs do to solve this issue?

The reason this is an issue is the simple fact of the way this role is currently doled out. It doesn't allow 41 other teammates a fair chance to even attempt to equip it. The first squad created will always get first choice on HAT.

How is that unfair? Join the first squad and take HAT. If you get beat you get beat. If you load slow buy better hardware. Everyone has the same chance. I don't even have Squad on my SSD and I still usually load in before the first squad is full.

its unfortunate but not unfair. I mean by that logic we should have 40 HAT kits per team because thats the only way to allow everyone a fair chance to equip it right? Remove the exaggeration and it would still be like 3 HAT kits per team and thats just a way to ♥♥♥♥ up the balance more

Same thing applies to anything, not just HAT. Join a squad and someone already took the machine gunner role you wanted? Someone spawned in and already grabbed the tank you wanted?

It's pretty much first come first served on public servers. Nerf them to let enough people take a lot of HAT kits, then HAT feels pretty 'meh' compared to LAT. Give enough non-nerfed so every squad has it, and then suddenly no one is using armor at all and all these HATs are being used to kill logis and troop transports and the one random APC/IFV that rage quits after getting HAT'd+LAT'd by every single squad out there.

The hardest part about being SL is the new players w/o mic's who play FFA, I love creating squads when theres people asking what to do

It's unfair in that the first squad open fills up near-instantly, and 41 other players must wait for another squad to open. During that time, Squad 1 has already acquired the HAT role. First choice doesn't always mean best choice. The fault lies on the current Squad menu's UI system and the way the role is acquired, not the player. Only nine players out of fifty on a team have the same chance.

Be mindful to forget about damage models and balance for a moment. A simple solution would be to open HAT once X amount of players have joined X amount of squads. All other fire support roles that are team size restricted versus squad size restricted would remain untouched (Marksman). This is a rough idea and can definitely be worked on.

There is 40 max per team so it would be 31 players who can't "get lucky". By the time we get to 50 per team they will probably allow 2 HAT kits per team anyway.

Personally I think the HAT kit is a chore to possess. You only got one shot then you have to scavenge for more ammo and you have to constantly hunt the heavy armor or the kit is being wasted.

The LAT kit is a much more versatile kit and you can swap to something else without worrying about losing your precious HAT kit.
You can't one shot anything with the HAT kit unless if it is already damaged. The crew can stop it from burning if they are quick enough. Furthermore it is often much easier to hit at long range with a LAT than a HAT.

That is categorically NOT unfair. As I said already, you have just as much chance as those people to join the first squad. Putting arbitrary limits on one single class just because you want it does nothing except slow the game down for everyone else.
