The match starts up. Squad 1 is created and filled up instantly. Squad 1 takes HAT.
Forty one other players are still waiting for another Squad to be created. Squad 2 opens up. Only LAT. The first Squad created will always get dibs on HAT. What will you devs do to solve this issue?
Before they answer that question I think the onus is on you to describe exactly why this is an issue.
The reason this is an issue is the simple fact of the way this role is currently doled out. It doesn't allow 41 other teammates a fair chance to even attempt to equip it. The first squad created will always get first choice on HAT.
How is that unfair? Join the first squad and take HAT. If you get beat you get beat. If you load slow buy better hardware. Everyone has the same chance. I don't even have Squad on my SSD and I still usually load in before the first squad is full.
It's pretty much first come first served on public servers. Nerf them to let enough people take a lot of HAT kits, then HAT feels pretty 'meh' compared to LAT. Give enough non-nerfed so every squad has it, and then suddenly no one is using armor at all and all these HATs are being used to kill logis and troop transports and the one random APC/IFV that rage quits after getting HAT'd+LAT'd by every single squad out there.
It's unfair in that the first squad open fills up near-instantly, and 41 other players must wait for another squad to open. During that time, Squad 1 has already acquired the HAT role. First choice doesn't always mean best choice. The fault lies on the current Squad menu's UI system and the way the role is acquired, not the player. Only nine players out of fifty on a team have the same chance.
Be mindful to forget about damage models and balance for a moment. A simple solution would be to open HAT once X amount of players have joined X amount of squads. All other fire support roles that are team size restricted versus squad size restricted would remain untouched (Marksman). This is a rough idea and can definitely be worked on.
Personally I think the HAT kit is a chore to possess. You only got one shot then you have to scavenge for more ammo and you have to constantly hunt the heavy armor or the kit is being wasted.
The LAT kit is a much more versatile kit and you can swap to something else without worrying about losing your precious HAT kit.
You can't one shot anything with the HAT kit unless if it is already damaged. The crew can stop it from burning if they are quick enough. Furthermore it is often much easier to hit at long range with a LAT than a HAT.
That is categorically NOT unfair. As I said already, you have just as much chance as those people to join the first squad. Putting arbitrary limits on one single class just because you want it does nothing except slow the game down for everyone else.
That is a solution to a 'problem' you have invented based on your childish inability to accept not getting the role you want.
