shooting behind cover
I walked in a room, saw the edge of enemy arm and the top of his helmet behind a hesco wall.

I lined him up slowly and as I went to fire he took me down.

His rifle wasn't even exposed and I couldn't see the eyes...

I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate it in games, when the enemy bullets comes from his forehead.

Huh, ive had the opposite experience, lined up what seemed like a clear line of sight shot on an enemy....fired... and my rifle only shot the dirt, so then switched to crouched and got killed in process.

Your graphics set to epic as well? Maybe higher res terrain isn't aligned with hitboxes.

"bullets" originate from the barrell of the gun. A line trace is done to 50 meters to see if any enemy is hit in a close range before an actual projectile actor is spawned.

The camera in the game that shows you what you see is attached to the eyes of the soldier, I forget if it's the left or the right eye. Eye level is accurate though for where the camera is positioned on the soldier.

Unlike arma, where the bullet trajectory is tied to where the firearm is pointing in game world space, bullets/projectiles in squad always go toward the dead center of your screen, before recoil.

So if your weapon is in a low ready, and you fire, that bullet is still going toward whatever you're looking at, not at the ground where the rifle is pointed.

I hope that clears some of the mechanics up.

As far as your description of what had happened, is it at all possible that there was a second enemy that shot you, and not the guy you were tunnel visioned onto?

if you could see his forehead, he could probably see yours. Or maybe he heard you. Or someone called you out to him. On top of this it may well be a ping issue. I play on high ping servers and end up losing almost all round-the-corner pushes where both he and I know that we're there. My body shows to him faster than I can see his. Im dead before I see more than his side outline. My barrel hasn't even cleared the corner.

I think most people understand this.. however because the collision effects between objects/terrain and the rifles in squad is pretty poor more often than not you find yourself shooting the top of something when close to it.. they implemented some form animation to move the rifle but it sucks ... every object seems positioned at either kneeling level or standing level .. they need to make the collision better and allow weapon resting on objects... this will sort most of the problems with shooting objects ...

as for the OP could be another person shooting you .. there is some desync at times with v12 I feel, where I can hit a guy 2 or 3 times and they still shoot back with ease.

Either #1 the net code was just being an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ or #2 someone else shot you

The camera is around the player models mouth, not eyes, in v12.

Yea its happened to me aswell. You see the very top of a helmet in a window and youre dead. Omly makes sense if the gun barrel poked thru the wall enough to shoot without obstruction, if thats the case the walls need to be thicker
