Squad updates are broken

Okay I dunno what the hell is happening with this game but if it's directly the devs fault or not doesn't matter. Whatever it is, the way this game gets updated is broken as sheet. Updates don't really work, at all.. Either they take really long to install and lag your computer out or they are just not downloading at all. Straight line for 10 hours straight, patient dead. For me this update hulk smashed my steam so hard I couldn't update NOR DOWNLOAD ANYTHING. It was stuck at 1% for 2 days of my pc being on most of the time of the days. I couldn't get any new games I installed to be installed instead of the squad update. I couldn't even at all cancel the download. At the end I completely had to deinstall squad and, to be honest, I don't think I'll download this game again unless this gets fixed. This game is already one big package, but just having it sit there and destroy my entire steam library.. How about no. Whatever the hell is happening with this, the devs absolutely need to fix this. Just. Fix. This.. Devs.

yeah dont know what to say. Here I am downloading the update for the 3rd time in the past 2 days it just keeps resetting every time its done. Hope that it is just a temp issue.

It is a valve issue, and happens to me on RS2 and couple other games.

No I dont think its a valve issue. Any game that has an issue similar to this has either bad server connection for every party involved or is badly optimized this happens every squad update it either doesnt download at all or just dies. It legit doesnt even let you pause or cancel the update. AT ALL

Did you manage to find a solution? Can u please tell how Im stuck in the same situation :(

It's pretty much a result of the way Steam and Unreal interact, unfortunately. It is absolutely not JUST a valve issue, saying that insults our intelligence.

There is more going on here than that, we don't have to go into details of how delta patching works or who is to blame.

What we should talk about is what you guys are doing to MITIGATE the issue. I can think of a few measures you could take just off the top of my head. To say that there is NOTHING that can be done is objectively false.

On my PC, the system first has to allocate space on my SSD before it will start the download. Most likely the download is a compressed file, so it needs space to expand.

The first time it happened to me, it was because my SSD had less than 60GB free on it. Try to free up some space and try again. After i did that I got 12MB/s download.

I literally cannot install the update because my game is on my SSD and it just goes and tries to download the game over again on my HDD when it goes to update, now Squad is unplayable

Ive only run into this issue when there is not enough storage to download, decompress, and install(process), but is enough to download. Which ever drive it installs to, it needs atleast 30 free GB to download and decompress for an update download that is roughly 10GBs.

this is definitely not causing the problem. that's a separate issue, most of us keep at least 1TB of space free on our main drive. If you think that is insufficient, well then....

It can take some time but never hours or days. The longest it has taken me to download a small patch and install then be able to play in which should otherwise take a few moments is ~20 minutes.

Okay, well we are here to tell you that there exists an issue that makes the update take HOURS. Does this seem like its functioning as intended to you?

All I can tell you is the game is on my SSD which has 40.4 GB of free space at the moment, my HDD has 1.39 TB free.

EDIT: I just noticed that it isn't on my SSD, I installed it on my HDD. It's my OS, EFT, DCS and P3D that is hogging up my SSD.

Ok, so I have a prob. I'm stuck in 1% for last 2 days.
Did rstart my steam/pc. Cache is cleared.
Any way it's 1% and it isn't downloading. Is there a solution?

I managed to solve mine by searching Squad files at my pc and deleting them since I can't even uninstall the game because its stuck at the update, after deleting some files or rather ALL the Squad files i can find it stopped updating and got the chance to reinstall it.
