what is ranging

can someone explain to me what does the "start ranging" key does

It adjusts your sights to the stated range. So if you go from 100m to 200m, when you shoot the shot will land 200m away when aiming down the sight at the pointer. Where as the same shot with 100m ranging will land under the pointer.

Basically, it makes shooting things far away a bit easier if you roughly know how far away those things are.

When aiming hold x and roll the mwheel up and down to zero your weapon at different distances (note this doesn’t apppy to all weapons)
