Squad is a bit more authentic when it comes to things like this - In reality cooking grenades hasn't been done in mass since WW2 and is very rare to see on the modern battlefield.

Grenade cooking is banned in most training phases across most nations militaries. It's also discouraged to use it in combat, too unsafe. Fuses are really unreliable, 2 - 5 second timer. You cook the grenade for 2 seconds, you might have a 3 second fuse, by the time you throw it, the grenade blows up in your hand or mid air in front of you.

If you're assaulting/breaching a building, whether house or bunker, you're supposed to get the grenade in low and hard, aim to land it in the far end opposite corner of the grenade entry to stop it bouncing back out at you. Low and hard = bouncing off the floor and walls. Makes it harder for the enemy to spot and pickup, and by the time he locates the grenade he has 1 - 2 seconds to decide to pick it up and blow himself up, or try and run.

the grenades in the game have safety levers, which your operator engages to prevent the grenade from starting its fuse until thrown.

Realistically speaking it would be a good way to get yourself and others around you killed. Throwing grenade is like throwing a brick, so good luck throwing it with few second fuse. Not to mention if you mess it up then you won't have time to get down or take cover.

We were taught to cook grenades when I was at Ft Sill. When tossing one into a bunker they taught us to pop the spoon, count to three, toss it through the window, and roll away. That was some 15 years ago, so things may have changed by now.
