They also do more damage per bullet than the riflemen. They might be lower DPS since Riflemen can both go full auto and more reliably aim single shot rapid fire more precisely than Marksman, but Marksman do more damage per bullet. I also think they have a less punishing bullet drop than Riflemen from personal experience. I've killed people with just two to the chest in any situation, with Riflemen needing 2 for close range and 3+ depending on range.
It's not useless, it's situational. Lone wolfing, which tends to be the "meta" for most people right now, Marksmen are useless. In coordination with a squad and engaging targets that are already engaged from an overwatch position, they can do a lot of situational damage and remain relatively un-engaged from the opposing forces.
It's a situational kit, just like ALL the fire-support roles are. A LAT is more or less not pulling his full weight if he never shoots off his rocket and gets killed by INF or never finds a single vehicle to fire at, and a machine gunner is relatively ineffective with a rapid moving squad in an area that offers no overwatch or too much cover against his angle of fire.
There's a reason Riflemen are generally better performance over-all. They're more versatile than any other role and that's why you can have a squad of nothing but Riflemen and medics+SL.
Marksman is a useless class because an optic rifleman can do the exact same thing but with added extras.
The marksman serves as a blend of offense, defense, and counter offensive. A machine gunner holding the squad down can be picked off quickly by the marksman. An open area is a killing field for the marksman in wait. A marksman that can flank forces endangering his squad can relay target positions and movements as well as he could eliminate them.
Yes, a rifleman can technically do the job of a marksman. You can also pee in the shower.
What you're perceiving as the marksman being weak is just the kit having its pros and cons. It can acquire and engage targets at ranges easier than a rifleman.
The only buff I'd want to see coming its way is range finder equipment.
Your 'buffs' are a hair short of holding your breath for bullet time, and bolt action rifles that are capable of blowing limbs off. Arma is that way. People have remained adamant about this: no snipers. Squad is a team based game. I don't care how many kill montages someone uploads, xXx_Snypr_xXx isn't a part of the team.
I'm sorry for being rude, but it's that time of the month where 'SNIPER PLS' threads appear

I think not.
Next map picked US grenadier. That optic beats SVD's 10:0.

^Done with an SVD.
You're not supposed to play with a snipers mindset.
Not opposed to having both iron sight and scope on the rifle though, that'd be beautiful.
7.62x54>5.56x45
I've never heard of 7.62x optics, tell me more.. /sarcasm. I'm aware bigger bullet is better, my point is the optics on SVD are garbage.
Not what I was implying. The 7.62x54 retains energy longer, you may be able to hit a target with a 5.56x45 but the chances of incapacitating that target are much higher at the same range. It's not garbage and in fact really good if you know how to use a PSO. What you want is an SV-98.
Marksman and Sniper are 2 completely different words and mindset, you'll figure it out, with experience, after experience is gained give all the tips you want on the Marksman class.
I'd pick the SVD over ANY gun in the game anyday, especially for CQB, okay maybe not over the SAW in CQB, that one's got a special place in my heart.
I would expect the devs to eventually do an overhaul of the marksman class, incorporating the same kind of fire support that the Sniper kit for the Canadian Special Forces has for all factions. IMO the only thing wrong I can see with greatly buffing the marksman role like that though would be that it would be too strong for every squad to have one. So either marksman should become a 1 per team role like the Canadian faction, or they just need to find a different way to improve the class to make it more viable than rifleman. If they went that route, I can see them implementing unique spotting mechanics or fortifications for the marksman class but only time will tell I guess.
