use the big optic (4x?)
Over time you will easily differentiate between uniforms and the environment.
For example, if there is a contact. Hide in a position where you have some overwatch. When not moving you are harder to spot and with some luck you might spot the enemy doing like you did before. Thinking its safe and moving ahead.
Another example is the "prone = safe" meme, wrong. Some times in close contact you need to stand up, pref with micro terrain cover (mini bumps and such in the ground) and advance or flank slowly. This enables you to have a better view than someone trying to do the same crawling.
Third example is that you think its a iron sights game and therefor dont use optics. If you have optics on your gun use it to scan the area ahead from time to time. If you dont, use your binos. If you have nether. Stick with someone that has or stay a bit in the back.
Putting people down means ether getting a snipe like headshot or double to tripple shot the chest. Meaning when you are advancing on a enemy in close range in an urban area or whatever. You need to both lean and go for double and triple shots towards the chest. Unlike say R6S were its head burst only. 1-2. 1-2-3. 1-2. That is how you should shoot in this game overall.
Unless you are optics MG. Then you ether shoot dead on or aim in front of where the enemy is running and fire a burst just before hes about to walk into hes view. Ergo, you hit him with that "back" part of the burst rather than the "front" part. You dont "shoot after" you only shoot at where the enemies is just about to be.
My2cent.
if your not getting shot at, and someone is shooting at your buddies for the love of god just shoot back. this is one of the biggest issues im seeing with newer players this week, its so hard to get fire superiority when half your squad hits the deck after the first rounds go off.
try to learn to hear where the shots are coming from and the type of weapon(this takes alot of time)
if you see friendlies shooting at an area
and your not taking direct fire
return fire to your best guess
If im playing AR im lucky to see what im shooting at half the time, if i have a rifle that number is lower but i still fire alot where i think they are
also its a cool aspect of the game. many times enemies have went past me when i was prone in the grass in a forest. camo works in this game and its fun as hell but lets not talk about the usa tan camo
1. learn the sound of each weapon. Know what each faction uses
2. know what each uniform looks like
3. listen for approx direction where fire is coming from
4. watch for tracers
5. watch for movement. the trees moving in the distance get me spooked
6. If your running and your stamina goes to zero, you're doing it wrong.
Aside from that, turning off anti-aliasing and turning SS to 1.25x or 1.5x makes for a much sharper image which will help you spot enemies
