just use your mic or just don't play this game. Squad is all about communication.

To answer your question anyway: No, people can't turn off text chat, but it's annoying af and most people won't even read it.

Use your mic m8, you don't even have to talk much, no one really likes idle talk much anyway because its distracting. Just push the key and make a callout. No one is here to judge you. The ♥♥♥♥ do it with broken english and good on them. There is nothing preventing you.

A mic isn't required (although many servers do want at least the SL to have one), it's just recommended. For you guys above it’s best not to be giving out false information for anyone who may read this thread before buying this game. Later on the voice overs will be expanded so this will greatly help micless players.

Thats the cancer that will tear this game apart from inside out... This game stands and falls with its community.

You must not read these forums often. I can dig up a plethora of "You need a mic." threads and posts if you so desire. This is just another one of them to be thrown into the pile. It isn't required so people need to stop playing it off like it is. The expansion of the voice over system will help micless players, if you don't like that then I'm sorry but you can't come off as condescending telling people to buzz off if they don't have one. I use a mic myself but I understand that not all have or want to use a mic.

Yes, a mic is much more effective but as I have aforementioned it's NOT a requirement for this game, it's merely a recommendation. Voice over commands will aid those that can't meet the recommendation. Right now it's only in it's first iteration and will be expanded on weather or not you "hope to god" they don't, if you don't like it then maybe you should leave the game, not those that don't have a mic. If it gets spammed at spawned then they devs can disable it's usage at spawn.

u do that but we are in this tread not others so as i said no1 here said u need just helps alot and as i said not once have i heard voice overs in a usefull situation they are just spam. voice overs are local only and therefore not very usefull as if u spread properly u wont really have people in range

K.

I'll admit I should have used singular and not plural or better yet just quoted them but my entire point still stands.

Anecdotal, just as much so as saying that I have never heard it spammed at spawn nor when I see a bunch of guys down around me as I'm playing as a medic. I hear it but not to a quantity that is considered spam. That useful situation will apply more when voice overs are more fleshed out, they're pretty basic at the moment.

It's just pretty disheartening how much people try to bar out anyone that wants to play but doesn't have a mic. I just hope someone reading this sees my replies here and in many other threads (a lot of which are quite elaborate) and understands it's alright not to have or use a mic and that voice overs will help them a lot in the future.

How often do you come across a player that doesn't have a mic? Once a blue moon in my experience. The community is making a big deal out of problem that doesn't even really exist. It's not the end of the world because someone in your squad doesn't have a mic or just prefers to use text chat, you'll live. Makes me wonder how people handle some rather stressful real life situations.

Done replying here. Just think about that last paragraph, such futile worry in this community about micless players and voice overs to help them.

Most people don't follow chat, because they are concentrated on the action and the information comes in via voice chat.

And all new players should be aware that not having a mic might get you kicked out of squads. Simply because a squad depends on communication.

my english is not very good and i have no interest in joking around with americans or brits.. they annoy me very often to be honest, we wouldnt have much fun i we would talk, not them, not me. so on english or u.s. servers i never use a mic... not one single time i got kicked from a squad because of this. so much to your theory about getting kicked for not talking.

I've seen people getting kicked for it plenty of times. And I didn't say they will get kicked, I said they might get kicked because of it.
And nobody wants you to joke around with squad mates. Just simple call outs of enemies and enemies structures. Plus a simple acknowledgement of orders you get.
Do I always kick people without a mic? No. I might be lazy to check for mics that day, or just opened a squad for the last few people and care mucb that day. Also if it's a seeding round - I don't kick anyone, as I want the server to fill as fast as possible.

Also if you're really from Germany, why not simply join German servers? If the americans and brits annoy you so much?

well, do you think i just "act" as a german or what? the reason because i play on angloamerican servers, sometimes, is there isnt always a slot free on german servers.. also, at night time, they are mostly empty.

You're name is German, as is the flag on your profile page. But I have no idea how Steam decides on the flags and the name could have been coincidence. I don't think you stated, that you are German.
And why not help seed a German server?

But we're getting of topic here. Sorry about that.

Back to topic:
The big problems with text chat are:
- You can easily miss something in tense situation. Which can mean, that e.g. you miss important information or can't really understand what people write about anymore.
- People write about lots of stuff that doesn't "really matter" or concerns most others.
