Na... its the stratification and lack of input from other sources to the devs'....ie... programmers. Often they are calling the shots as they are experts in writing code. They are NOT experts in the majority of other topics.... Nor often will they explore similar software to find the standard norms that came before. Its why when you make stuff like this game, it pays to have a BIG diverse team were everyone has input. By diverse... I dont just mean the rainbow. I mean different ages and back grounds. Like infantry grunt...pilot, heavy tracked vehicle operator.... now you get to emergent game play.... Some guy that lived in a box making great code on his/her own is not gonna get there. And that is some of what is wrong with the often bizarre things that come out of game studios. OH.......and pray the biggest stick in the room is not made of immobile concrete.
At this point these controls and inputs are clearly intended to be "accessible". But to many OTHER games in the same genre make this look like a kiddie pool. So right now you have folks that go this is a crappy unsatisfying game play loop, like you expect me to fly this thing around for hours on end in this crappy unsatisfyingly fake chopper? Ya no.. To others that never played any thing like this sort of game play experience of the past 20+ years that do flying choppers better. And I am not even touching on actual SIMS here. This aims at the middle ground and OMFG I think it missed the target by a wide margin.
and theres still the weird acceleration, in the test course u suddenly speed away at the landing pads even with minimal collective levels and then the weird intertia comes to play and u cant properly lose speed.
u can twitch the helicopter around with the mouse even with 2 wheels touched down as long as the game thinks its not yet "landed"
theres so much about it that just doesnt feel right
They weren't going for mil sim level of controls and fly models where you gotta manually flip switches and dials just to start the engine. Squad has never been about mil sim level of realism. I think the way they have it now fits their game design as its in the middle of mil sim and arcade just like every other vehicle and weapon.
Well thats DCS..... its an actual flight model thats like 91 percent right. The tail rotor is not even modeled here...... Whats the point of pedals? But if you understand how a basic chopper flies, this is utterly unacceptable. It would be like making all cars in game turn backwards and with the rear wheels turning sort of bad. No one would put up with it. But folks that have the basics of how a chopper flies, its the same thing really. The real issue is that OTHER games in the same vane as squad are doing simplified chopper flight models that are way better. At least the basic stuff is mainly there.... Arma and RS2 pop into mind...
Helicopter? Where are Helicopters? Sorry I ask but I have not seen a single helicopter.
The flight mechanics are actually pretty easy, but require a bit getting used to. It's even better this way so flying feels more realistic then some arcade flying of battlefield and balances out flying a bit in the process.
