Ryzen 1200 and Squad
Hi guys;

I am building a pc for Squad and I want to state that I have no obsession with high FPS so I can play it in middle or high settings and 35-45 FPS will be enough for me. In the light of these, please tell me whether I see this FPS rate with the AMD system below? (btw not fanboy comment please)

AMD Ryzen 3 1200 3.1 Ghz
8 GB 24000 Mhz DDR RAM
GTX 1050 Ti 4 GB 128 bit

Is that enough for 35-45 FPS or should I swap the processor with i3 8100? Thanks.

The ryzen and your 1050 should be more than capable of running Squad with minimal FPS drop on standard settings. If your system is tweaked enough you could probably swing epic settings. Your setup is not too dissimilar to my own and I run epic without any issues whatsoever.

Could you writw down your system please? How many FPS you get ? Which video option you set?
Based on past issues with AMD(and AMD with this game) if you want to game without driver issues.....go intel / nvidia. Im not saying Ryzen / AMD dont have the hardware specs to run this ...they do in spades...they need to fix their drivers

I almost decided to buy i3 8100 and then just want to make sure about AMDs impact on the squad. Otherwise, I am going to pay 100 pounds more for intel system because of z350 motherboard series for intel 8th generations and monitor so on.

AMD Ryzen 3 1200 3.1 Ghz
8 GB 24000 Mhz DDR RAM
GTX 1050 Ti 4 GB 128 bit
Asrock AB350 Motherboard

VS

i3 8100 3.6 GHZ
8 GB 24000 Mhz DDR RAM
GTX 1050 Ti 4 GB 128 bit
MSI Z370 Motherboard.

Go whit intel ..i use to be a amd user for the last 8 years i switch for intel and never ganna go bacvk whit amd ..and im not to impress whit the ryzen serie !
http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i3-8100-vs-AMD-Ryzen-3-1200/3942vs3931
the i3 8100 is about 20% faster than ryzen 1200..so go whit the i3
and gaming is 81% for i3 and 67% for ryzen ..BIG difference right dere !

Ryzen is not the right choice for pure gaming. It is an allround CPU.

Ryzen processors actually run suprisingly well on Squad, I remember the FX chips ran terribly back then. I'd go for it.

I've had only good things to say about my r5 1500 in squad. currently using a gtx 970 and reading off the ingame metrics I'm gpu limited. this is on medium-high settings with performance being at worst: about 45 on the middle eastern maps (they don't run very well) but around 55-68 on every other map with the server filled up.

But it seems once you get a decently capable cpu squad runs pretty good. It's still very hard to hold a rock solid 60. But if your expectations are in line with other games like arma, squad's optimization will do you just fine.

For the price you paid for the i3 + Z370 mobo, i am sure you could find some 1600 + B350. Thats vastly superior and you get a proper cooler, even capable of OC to 3.8-3.9 out of the box.

Bad decision you made there mate.

I have ordered only cpu so far. I am waiting for new mobo series for 8th generation. As you know, now it is not reasonable compared to b350 series.

i3 8100 is a lot cheaper than a Ryzen 1600 and you will need a good motherboard and a good cooler if you are to have any hope of reaching up to 4GHz on a Ryzen. Even then Ryzen is only just as good as the i3 8100 in games.

It only makes sense to buy a Ryzen if you do other tasks besides gaming that require a lot of threads.

Thats not true --> a good mobo and cooler is only important for Ryzen 7 because of the eight cores (as do I have). When you check serious pc magazines and forums about pc harware, the R5 1600 goes easily with an B350 Mobo and the stock cooler to reach something like 3.6/3.7GHz, because the R5 has "only" 6 cores(and 12 Threads)

I have a Ryzen 7 1700X + Brocken 3 and I have more power than a i3 8100 in games, just because I have more threads/cores.

But otherwise, the i3 8100 costs something around 110€, the R5 1600 cost about 200€, so if you bought the i3 8100 cause of money, it was the right choice.
