If you do the reverse your system will default to dedicated graphics.
I am not 100% but you can usually disable you CPU onboard graphics chip in your BIOS so reboot hit usually F2 or Delete and have a look.
PEG=PCIe External GPU
Even you arn't disable iGPU, but set PEG as primary GPU. you can both iGFX,PEG as output of displays, of course even stream coming from iGPU, all D3D(games in most cases) frames renders from PEG.(but only DXGI GUI in monitor displayed by iGPU(something like GUI of windows OS) renders from IGFX.)
