You download 129Mb and are unable to install Squad and see the following error message:
Diagnosis:
Your PC has not run Windows Update in a long time, so long in fact that you do not have the Windows security updates required to install Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015.
Solution:
Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015 x64 and x86 from here:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145
http://www.infoworld.com/article/2608069/microsoft-windows/microsoft-reissues-botched-windows-8-1-update-kb-2919355.html
My failed attempts to install KB2919355 came from a possible lead to an error that I get when trying to repair my Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015
Error: 0x80240017 - unspecified error
The error also occurs when installing Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015.
The lead came from users saying that installing the latest Microsoft .NET Framework, which is "4.6", helped solve their issues.

I can see x86 and x64 versions of Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015. under "Programs and Features". I can uninstall them but the error remains the same upon reinstalling and repairing.

So you never installed KB2919355 and are able to play Squad?
"The program can't start because api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."
Starbound had the same error(s) with "api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll/Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015", and the developer resolved the issue somehow. Maybe these links can help you, other developers, etc...?
The game known as "Starbound" apparently had this issue as well, and one of the developers resolved it.

I was a major Arma 2 realism fanatic and loved the gameplay of Project Reality back in the day. I am really hopping that I can wake up tomorrow to a solution to my issue, or atleast being able to here that it will be fixed or a dev comment on helping me to continue trying to resolve the issue. I was even the one to show my freinds Squad, which they then bought and downloaded. They haven't had any issues.

Sounds like a grim future for me. Which updates do I need exactly, if any?
I can also provide more info regarding my issue if needed. I tried to provide any info I thought you needed in a post above this one.
Dell was no help and wanted $250 before providing any help. Don't give them your money. They also sent out PCs with broken Windows install disks, and after realizing this, they sent out new CDs to affected computers, which I never got even though they claimed I did recieve a new fixed Windows CD, and they wanted $20 to send a new CD.
Long story short, this issue caused a partition error. As a result, I could not perform an in-place repair install (Only replaces Windows OS files and drivers, nothing else). So i made a full system image using the Windows feature. This feature is located at: "Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Windows 7 File Recovery" but may be a bit different on your PC.
I also backed up individual files so I didn't have to go into the system image everytime I needed a file. But the system image provided the piece of mind that I could get back literally anything from my PC incase I forgot to back it up.
1. I burned Windows to a USB. I had the Dell Windows disk in my PC as well, but I have no idea which one was used for the reinstall.
2. After getting the Windows reinstall DVD or USB, I went into the boot menu and got the DVD/USB to boot first so that it would load the installer.
3. I then while in the installer had to clean both harddrives in order to use the custom install, because the other option would not work.
4. I used the command prompt. Typed "diskpart". "select drive 0", "clean". And then typed, "select drive 1", "clean". This got rid of the old Windows recovery and system partition in addtion to everything else. Basically both drives were formatted/cleaned of the broken Windows install.
5. Disk 1 was my SDD and disk 0 was my HDD. So I installed Windows on the SSD. Then went through the installer process.
6. I then used "Windows Update" to search for and install updates. Went through one round of 161 updates, then another round of 22 updates after the first group was done installing and the PC had restarted.
7. I then installed C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015 for x64 and x86 and had no errors while installing it.
8. I installed Steam and the downloaded and installed Squad. Now I no longer have the issues.
9. The full system image backup of my PC with the broken Windows install means I can easily get any file I forgot to backup from my external drive meant for backups. Pretty easy to find and copy folders and files from old Windows install, to my new PC.
Full System Image Backups contain a complete copy of everything on your PC, and can be used to restore your PC to the moment in time when the image was made.
