The game is already in a constant state of updates, and has over 22k+ concurrent players. It's not for consideration, OWI has their hands full already with this game.
If you prefer more modern vibes, I'd look into Bellum once that comes out. But Squad isn't going anywhere, and will go strong for years to come, much like Arma and DayZ
development is dead
new models...very great
here some translation from forum (not edited):
=======
I've been playing Squad since alpha, which is 7 years. The developers are still crooked ♥♥♥♥-makers, radically new mechanics appear once every 3 years: they are generally afraid to touch the game code, because it consists entirely of crutches, if they try anything, the game breaks for a month or two.
In fact, the game peaked in 2020, then they only drew new models.
It will never replace Arma, because Arma is a platform for modding first and foremost.
And Squad has a problem with mods: after each patch, you need to update the mods, which few people do - so the workshop is stocked with irrelevant junk. And the modding process itself is still a hassle.
You only need 64 GB of RAM to open the editor - otherwise there will be wild lags, 3 fps and crashes.
Arma is much simpler and more enjoyable for modders. There are tools, the editor flies compared to Squad's UE4.
Squad is not being developed anymore: 80% of the mechanics from Project Reality have been forgotten - they will never be.
Squad sucks in terms of development even compared to PR. I won't say anything about Arma. The developers sold out to the Chinese - they made the Chinese Jade Rod Strike faction, added donations: they multiplied Squad, sell crooked mods for the game as separate games: postscript, renamed to Squad 44; Beyond Wire, Sqb Squad about PMV; Starship Troopers, made from a mod about shooting bugs based on that very movie.
And all their efforts in paid mods have failed.
As a result, the money earned on Squad was wasted on the release of mods, Squad is in ♥♥♥♥, there is no money to adequately develop it.
In terms of technical condition, it's a complete failure. There is only one way out - to start development from scratch, but there is no money or competence for this.
Well, Bohemia has been sawing its engines for its needs since 2000. Their new engine is the quintessence of the development of Arma: they were able to make an optimized open world, and screw on modern graphics, and also make optimization for multi-threaded CPUs. Surprisingly, on a weak AMD FX, Arma Reforge works better than the ten-year-old Arma 3.
True, the requirements for the video card have increased many times, but the graphics are no longer from the times of PS3 and X360, but modern: the requirements of 1650 4 GB in the minimum are adequate.
I think currently it is in beta testing

Awesome!
