You NEED a microphone.
Good? I'd say more self-righteous squad leaders. Having a microphone isn't a requirement for this game. Having good communication is a requirement. If he is a fast typist, he can overcome his lack of a microphone
I use a combo of both, if I'm giving detailed information that may get lost amongst all the voices, I'll type it out in both team and squad chat, otherwise if it's just shooting the ♥♥♥♥ (90% of voice comm imo) then I'll use voice, or for quick reaction "enemy at 150" etc
A very large amount of what makes the experience in this game great and unique is the communication with your squad. It is possible to only communicate with keyboard chat but you are not only at a disadvantage but will also be losing a massive part of what makes it fun.
You may also find yourself ignored more often because people are focusing on the situation, game, and voices around them rather than the chatbox.
Most people you ask will probably reccomend you get a mic for more enjoyment and they are 100% correct, because I played my first month of PR without a mic at all- once I got one it was like a whole new game.
Don't you talk to friends in TS or Skype while playing?
