Squad
Too expensive.
In Australia this game will cost me 55$ at the current exchange rate. Who honestly pays that for an EA game? Especially after so many others have tanked and been abandoned, or had exponentially long development cycles.

I have owned both Arma 3 and Insurgency since EA and payed a similar price for the two combined. AAA titles like the new CoD are priced at 45$ currently and that game is jam packed with content.

Maybe this is a common topic on these forums and I apologise if this has come up a lot before, but this game has only recently come up on my radar and the only reason I am not buying it is because I am not willing to pay full price for a game that is still in Alpha. I truly dont mean this in an offensive way, but why is an early access game made by an indie studio priced like many AAA fully released games?

I wonder though, could this game go on sale in these few days?

strongly doubt it. you can argue that it's -already- on sale. as it'll be released at launch for $60. so you already get a 35% discount right from the jump. not to mention the fact that the game just recently came out two weeks ago.
Think $40 USD is too much for SQUAD early access?

Instead of buying SQUAD right now, I highly recommend you invest $139.99 USD to guarantee your ability to play in the early alpha of Escape From Tarkov. It looks EPIC!

Surely that's not too much to gain access to a early alpha FPS from (basically) an unknown indie group of developers from Russia.

Hahahahaha
AAA games (excluding steam sales) are typically $90+ here mate, not $45

Also in Australia
I already have 40+ hours on this game. It is definitely worth it.

No game will last years and years but this games development is very active and the more people play and get it the better it is.

Not to mention when they started they didn't have this income and it was from MODDERS who coded o spare time. Now it's full tim coders!!
Yes it IS expensive. If it reaches like 20e max ..i ll buy.I rarely buy games btw
This isn't an EA game.

I remember when full price was $100 for any game

Dude, i payed $100 for nintendo64 games............................. when they were new

If you dont like it after buying you can always get a refund. Aslong as u dont play it more than 2 hours. Or have it in your library for longer than 2 weeks.

i remember paying 130$ for silent hill back on ps1 when it first came out, aswell as oddworld abes exodus xD

My mate used to own the largest independent Game company in the UK and back then the games were about (the equivalent of) $40 or $50 for AAA titles.

I told him to sell the company on, as I knew other retailers would also start selling used titles: so he did, and he became a millionaire.

As I have stated before.. the responsibility is on us the development team to prove the cost is worth it.

We are at 100k units sold between presales and Steam release with sales continuing into a pretty comfortable tail. This is exactly where we need to be and exactly as planned. (even a bit better)

EA is an opportunity for us to bring the game to market for early adopters and more risk/reward types and sell them the vision. Give them as much of a vertical slice as we can and see if players are getting it.. which they are.

This now allows us to go into full production of the entire breadth of the project and prepare squad for a much wider audience which is more risk adverse. Which is just fine by us.. we planned it this way.

The price also serves as an intentional barrier to the project growing to quickly and ensures we will have the staff and resources to manage the community and the quality of the gameplay experience. (i know this sounds crazy but this is an organized long play... not a hail mary like some other projects)

our real goal is to actually get to launch a 1.0 release. After all my years in modding and playing video games. (25 years or so) I can tell you very matter of factly the only thing AAA has on us is shiny graphics and large marketing budgets.

its a proposition.. you can pay to play now and come with us on the journey or you can play later when it is ready for a wider audience.

Ps. I really do hope we push up the threshold price on EA games.. the best EA games are 10x more exciting and ground breaking than any AAA title ive played in years. (space engineers, 7 days to die)

PSS. We won #1 Editor choice best upcoming game and 2nd place Players choice awards from Indie of the year Indie.db. woop woop! )

Here is hoping we are on the edge of a new generation of games made by gamers for gamers without borders and shareholders

Cheers!
Thank you for the response, its good seeing a developer answer exactly what I was trying to ask. Its a pity it took 7 pages of trolls and fighting to get this answer lol. I know I will pick this game up at some point, I might just wait till a bit later into the development cycle. Thanks again for the reply.

Mate, the last time I payed 90$ for a game was when I was on console buying new from EB games. You can get practically all new titles from GMG for $40-$60 max. If you are willing to risk other sites like cjs you can get it for even cheaper.
