Unique Random Advance and Secure game mode
Interesting logistics and base building system with user placeable fortifications and weapons emplacements
Large maps
50 vs. 50 PvP
Cons
Absolutely terrible optimization
Utilizes an old deprecated version of Unreal Engine 4
Recent introduction of something called the "Infantry Combat Overhaul" which is supposed to simulate realism but all it really does is disable all the people that got really good at the gunplay aspect
Game moves slow with lots of downtime
No official servers, only private franchise servers with conflicting supplemental rule sets
I would say that is a good summary. However the lack of functioning anti-cheat should also be added as a major con. I mean, this isn't news or anything as it is fairly common knowledge EAC is bottom of the barrel. Hell there is even recent events that suggest EAC actually makes your machine more susceptible to being hacked which is ironic. You would be hard pressed to name a single title in the gaming world, protected by EAC, where even free hacks don't run rampant in that game. Squad is no exception.
You can play it fine on your own and without a clan or organised group, the experience may vary tho since it heavily depends on the other players (especially your teams Squadleaders) how much fun it will actually be.
Squad does have a culture of random ppl working quite well together more often than not, at least in my experience, provided there is an SL around giving it at least some structure.
I would say try it out and refund if you don't like it, unfortunately 2 hours is hardly enough to get a good impression, its basically just enough for one round which can be good, ok or an outright cluster*** depending on the day and the server and the kind of players you run into.
When the first Squad you get into has an SL who has no real clue what he is doing and tries to overplay it with being bossy and rude you will have a bad experience, but that entirely comes down to chance.
Imo its a great and unique game, despite its flaws; performance ain't great and will only run OK'ish on pretty strong systems and adjusting to the unique pace of combat in Squad takes some time, so don't expect to win fights single handedly as a newbie.
