6 or 8 cores?
I'm thinking of a CPU upgrade from my current dual core and I'm trying to decide between an i5 or an i7. Does Squad benefit from an extra 2 cores? Thanks.

For high player count FPS games (like Squad) you want the fastest CPU you can get. More cores wont always help because the bottleneck is often 1 Thread.

Between an i5 and i7 OF THE SAME GENERATION the i7 should be better. Lookup a CPU hierarchy chart and benchmarks of similar games to see if the extra money for the i7 is worth it for you.

Most basic of understandings of CPU upgrading. The higher the number the better.

Don't forget to bend the pins before installation

i5 2500, i get 45 fps avg. on medium setting. so, dont waste money on just a game that isnt optimized well.

Get the i7. People say beepbeepboopboop game no use more cores, but they're completely wrong. If you have more cores, you are less likely to bottleneck your computer even if the game is not using all of those cores. Same clocked i5s vs i7s perform worse and this has been true for the past 5 years and the disparity will only get greater.

Thanks for your replies guys. I think I will go for an 8 core CPU then since getting a new GPU won't be possible for a long while anyway.

I just got this CPU (upgraded from a 7700) with a 1060gtx and I cannot complain for one second.

I9-9900K, 2080ti, 32gb ram and a m.2 gives me on average 125-150 fps on High-Epic settings. I run the CPU and GPU stock.
