Playing SQUAD with no mic
Hi all!

I really like what SQUAD offers but I don't like to use mic, that's just the way it is. I know the gameplay heavily depends on communication and teamwork, and I have no problem with both of them or following orders (and using the in-game chat to communicate).

Do you think I should buy it or pass?

Thanks in advance.

I'd pass. I know many SLs will kick you from a squad if you fail a mic check, myself included. Text chat doesn't cut it when you're getting shot at or running while talking. At best you could probably blend in as a medic but any key roles would be off limits on serious servers

Some SL do kick, not all. Also depends on the situation, as explain above with regards to crucial kits like anything anti vehicle.

You'll most likely get kicked from servers if try to squad lead without a mic. Don't even bother joining vehicle squads, as mic communication is extremely important.

In general no one has time to read text chat, unless they are waiting for a revive. Not to mention this method of communication is not real time, so no one has a clue as to how fresh the information is. This method of communication doesn't get the job done.

I've not run into people bullying because of how someones voice comes through, as long as it understandable. So, if that is your concern forget it, clear communication so important to the game that people don't give a ♥♥♥♥ about that stuff.

I do not know as to why you refuse to use mic communication when you have it available to you. But, you are going to want to reconsider this decision to get the full experience out of this game.

You can play fine with minimal communicating. Some people just prefer with. Its a gamble either way.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Thanks all for the answers.

It's not a matter of being bullied, I don't give a damn about that, but to be honest, what I really hate are mil-sim ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ who think they are in a real war and forget it's just a freaking videogame. I like to play the game on my own, I very rarely use mic, that's the way I enjoy more playing even if it's online only. I didn't have in mind to be a Squad leader or part of a vehicle crew. Just modest things, rifleman, grenadier, machinegunner... That kind of thing.

Even those roles, you'll be hindering your squad if you can't make simple call outs with a mic. Like the previous posters have said, it's not practical to type out information in the middle of a fight.

I guess so, yeah. I'll pass for now, it's a shame because I really like Squad. But I'll reconsider using mic in the future.

Thanks guys.

Lastly, the same rules here about mic use with Squad aplies for Post Scriptium, right?

smaller playerbase so i'd imagine they are even more strict about mic usage.

I've never liked all the Chatty Kathy's that tend to play Squad. Some techniques to mitigate their impact and maintain your sanity is by locking your squad at whatever low number the server will allow, greatly reduce SL chat volume levels and then warn what squad members you do have that if they insist on "shooting the breeze" that you're just going to give them the boot.

Just what I was thinking.

You saved me money.

I guess these two games are not for me no matter how realistic/authentic they are and good gameplay they have.

Do you think Hell let Loose would be more appropiate for me?

Honestly. Its absolutely possible to play Squad with minimum comunication (if you are not in armor vehicle).
If you are asked to mic check than you say "yes" and then just play. Dont care if you cant call out enemies. Teammates will figure out. Just stay with them and shoot and build if SL place something and thats it. And if SL send you for supplies than bring logi at same spot where you took it and leave it. SL will deal with it. Its "rat" game lets say but its possible play like that and nobody will complain and notice. Your answers can be limited to "yes or no or ok" and everybody will be happy. You are not alone. Silent players are very offten much better teamates than prattlers. Dont play marskmen kit without mic. It looks like good idea but its not. Marskmen kit take lots of arguing and talking. Rifle kit, MG, GL are great pick for this. Medic, AT and Engeneer can be pushed to use mic by situations.

HLL is more forgiving but I personally dont like this game. Sound is not good for me and reduce immersion to "boring".

Those are my opinions.

Just note. This game is played by kids (11+) but also elders (60+) Avarage is i guess somewhere at 28. Worst group of players are 17 - 25 they are annoying and milsim minded. Olders are more chilled and dont care so much. This game is also played by womens they usually dont talk much. I have seen great female SLs but also great kids SL it was very impressive.

Yeah, just because no mic doesn't mean absolutely less teamwork or lower skill/usefulness, although everybody should know what this game is about before buying. I know some roles depend more on communication than others so maybe more player conflict is involved if not done correctly, but I'm just here for a good time, same as when I play any other game.

I appreciate the time you all taked for answer my questions. Thanks!

Probably as it has a much larger playerbase, which means less communication.

Although, wait for a free weekend maybe...cause that game runs like absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on my pc for some weird reason. But, squad runs great...i dont get it.

In anycase, Squad is awesome. Sad that you aren't willing to change your mind about mic usage.

Not now mate, maybe in the future I'll do. I'm sure there are enough good players playing Squad, one more noob is not needed ;)

P.D.: I'll try Squad on of these free weekends.

You do not need to talk like a social butterfly in this game and the little talking you do will improve the fear of speaking to others online. Most of the talking is just to tell where you see enemies and sometimes agreeing to follow the squad leader's order. I as a newbie squad leader is happy as long as my teammates are following my orders and it is a plus if they use the voice chat a little. To talk a little in any team based game will give you a huge advantage over those who do not, you can as an example quickly give crucial information that your team can respond to within a second.
