Alpha 16 - Helicopter Controls
I'm not sure where exactly we bring our feedback for the Alpha 16 public test, but immediately one problem I have is the lack of remapping support. I've never been a fan of the W/S thrust controls because it feels like I'm playing one of those helicopter-in-a-cave flash games. My problems could be solved by getting a joystick, but I usually can get by just fine with keyboard and mouse.

My preferred flying controls from games like Rising Storm 2 and ARMA III is as follows:
Raise Collective = Shift
Lower Collective = Ctrl
Left Rudder = Q
Right Rudder = E
Left Pitch = A
Right Pitch = D
Nose Up = W
Nose Down = S
Pitch Control = Mouse (except when freelooking)

Unfortunately Shift is currently bound to staring at your dashboard, which is sort of helpful but inconvenient (personally, for viewing the instruments, I'd rather be able to freelook then zoom-in with something like MMB). I'm having problems finding the existing binds in the menu so I was hoping the interface could be updated, or perhaps even there be a drop-down menu for different mapping choices for helicopters based on the pilot's preferences.

That's my only issue so far as the helicopters themselves feel decent as I try getting used to the unfamiliar, limiting controls. Thanks in advance, whether it's developer response or instructions to where I should post this instead.

Haven't tried them yet due to not wanting to install the testing branch. But, rebinding is absolutely a necessity for helicopters. I almost always change my controls in games, I'm just not happy with the default. This especially goes for helicopters. If it's using W/S for collective, I won't be able to fly.
My preferred controls are
Collective: Shift/space, or Mouse4/5
Rudder: Mouse x axis, sometimes C/X like arma.
Pitch: WASD, if using C/X for rudder, mouse movement for finer pitch movements to compensate.
I HATE games that have helicopter freelook but if you bind rudder to the mouse movement, it turns the helicopter as well.

Project Reality was awful for helicopters because using BF2 as a base, you could not bind duplicate keys manually, even if they weren't usable in a helicopter. So you were stuck with the default for helicopter, or stuck with binding ALL your others keys to something you can't use when you need it on foot.
