Suppressive fire - yay or nay?
I've been playing a lot of Squad lately and have come across what I consider a relatively odd theme - when I play automatic gunner or rifleman, I usually attempt to suppress the enemy as best as I can, mostly when we're around FOB's where I can pretty easily stock up on extra ammo and the like. This is usually done during a hard defense or a counter-assault, and very rarely while flanking or attempting to sneak up on the enemy (I don't like to fire first, the SL and marksmen usually take care of that for me.)

That said, I've been getting a surprising amount of anger from other Squaddies for it. People will pretty often yell at me over local to stop firing, or give me the "Okay, yeah, we GET it," treatment after I burn 30-40 rounds of ammo or so. It came to a head last night when I was defending and expended about a hundred rounds in 3-8 round bursts, and a teammate just shot me and asked the team to kick me for "excessive shooting."

Am I doing this wrong? Is it a no-no in-game to try to emulate a real-world thing? Should I knock it off? It just seems really odd to me, as when you're suppressed in game, your vision blurs and it makes it harder to aim correctly. Am I just being overly autistic about it?

Thanks in advance for any assistance or advice.

lol im sorry that happend Edward some people are pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I was in a server and was shooting near a team fob when some guy told me to stop giving away the fob location or he will ban me. After a few choice words from me I got banned :steamfacepalm: Anyways supressing fire is only good when defending a fob or cordinading with another person/team/squad. Just supressing one guy will ussualy get u killled quick by his comrade.
If you're being threatened or shot at by teammates for suppressing then you're probably on the wrong server.

A BTR or Humvee are really good sources of suppressive fire if they are smart and hang back, firing from a distance. Far to often they drive straight in and basically do nothing.

Your team mate shot you? That should warrant a server banning to that player, or maybe a suspension, or some other kind of proper punishment.

Honestly I don't know why anyone would have a problem with it. From my understanding, an LMG isn't even designed to hit the target. It's meant to suppress. It's supposed to throw so many rounds it denies an area or pins down people in it. Yes you obviously can hit the target, but it's innaccurate anyway so the proper careful aiming is for other weapons.
What do they expect? A full auto gun with large capacity to fire single shots with marksmen aim? Pffft.

If the suppression effect were more severe and the re spawn timers were made longer then suppression would be more viable

Also when bipods get introduced lmg will become immensely more popular

I play heavy support mostly, and I'm frequently providing suppressive fire, usually on the orders of the SL. It's absolutely essential in some situations. A good example for me was a game where the enemy were dug-into a compound and putting fire down on anyone coming towards it. My SL had two of us providing constant fire to the exposed rooftops alternately. When one had to reload the other took over firing duties. It allowed two full squads to get up to the compound without losing a single man.

I suggest changing server if stuff like what happened to you happens again. Either that, or change squads.

This is a topic whose answer, in game terms, differs form actual combat. Games cant replicate the effects of supression or the fear of death so players are more likley to ignore the sights and sounds of getting shot at. Combine this with some peoples AMAZING aiming skills....

My experience of supressive fire:
Other players have an UNCANNY ability to locate and engage the shooter(even if he is concealed/in cover) quickly with 3-5 rounds the despite supressive fire. THe supressive shooter broadcasts his position to the enemy and when combined with the "no fear" thing(for the enemy guys) I talked about, their return fire is more accurate than you would think, especialy if they have an optic.

Used in close quarters, it can be useful. The noise is louder, you can see bullet effects. Example, you pound a window or a corner while a squad mate flanks or preps a grenade.

If a SL has a good position (not on a hill) and coordinates a SQUAD's fire with his BINOS onto an objective, that can be effective. It can allow another squad to advance on a flank. I often use the BINOS to provide distance/direction/shift fires to the auto rifle RPG and GL kit.

TL-DR: If you supress with any weapon, it needs to be accurate. I use is spairingly because it broadcasts your position to the enemy but the benefit you were seeking to create is minimal. The further away you are from your target the higher chance you have of being spotted and hit by player with an optic.

Games have a hard time striking a balance between replicating the sights/sounds/fear that getting shot at can bring a person. THey cant make it debilitating... then no one would play.

Holy cow.
All our clan use suppressive fire. all other clans use suppressive fire. This game was created for play this. I personally use this a looot. If one start play competitive games than this is so natural.
The last flood of fresh blood is pretty hm weird . New players act sometimes weird. Shoot somebody just because something. I dont get this. I cant believe.

problem is some people don't know how to properly suppress enemy if you think laying in grass and just spray where enemies were supose to be.. you are wrong. possition, make sure you are not suppresing at fob if enemy doesn't know where it is(that is just mega stupid) and suppresing enemy while your allies are already CQB with them (you are suppresing your own mates). suppresing is good if your team wants to cross open area and flank.

i've met so many newbies that they were "suppressing" but all they did is block coms so i didn't hear my squad and local chanel and suppress everyone who was fighting infront of him not just enemy lol.

if your team finds enemy in open fields suppressing is damn awesome then.

Sounds like you've been playing on some really crappy servers.

Well, the real problem is your teammates. Suppresive fire is not always the way to go, and the only real time I would recommend suppresing the enemy is when you are in a FOB near a ammo crate. If you simply waste your ammo out in the open you will have serious problems in the near future when you actually get close enough to kill an enemy. So the way you described it is totally okay. But honestly you arent doing anything wrong.
Hold on tho fam, how're you laying down surpressive fire without getting domed by some sniper or a guy flanking you? Usually when I put down supressive fire the enemy flocks to my position, especially in the more urban areas.

fuzzy, exactly as I said, people are very good at finding and engagign you the MOMENT you fire. Sucks
pimpingbunny Jan 17, 2017 @ 12:59pm
it's a fire support role, follow sl, let him guide you, and support the squad.
cG. KCIV Jan 17, 2017 @ 2:34pm
Unrealistic mechanics that force realistic interactions.

Currently suppression is a ming game, easily ignored. Which isn't the point of suppression as a mechanic.

Tie suppression into stamina, tie weapon sway into stamina, there you go.
