Alliances?
So I was offered an "alliance" by Lumeris AI, and I'm not sure how this affects the victory conditions. I mean I saved the game and accepted to have a look and I can see that we now both seem to contribute to the VC, but I am not sure how to evaluate this:
- Doesn't this make winning a lot easier for me?
- Is this considered "cheating" in that I would now be splitting a win with an AI?
thanks

Depends on the victory you're aiming for. All victory conditions will require bigger amounts. Instead of 4 Endless techs for Science victory, it's like an additional 2 per empire in alliance. A lot more money for eco victory, etc.
It can make it easier or harder for specific conditions.
Science and wonder victory are probably easier solo. Eco victory can be easier if you partner with Lumeris and just piggyback off them, depending on your faction.

Supremacy (or the one with the large amount of systems) will require more systems as every player in your alliance contributes to the victory (your alliance wins as a single player would)

OK so it's not a no-brainer easy cheating win then? I was thinking of disabling alliances, but if it is not so clear (like in TW:W2) then maybe I'll leave it in. thanks

It's easier because you have less people to worry about.
But whether it makes winning faster or not will depend.
Although, you could, for example, ally so you don't have worry about potential enemies, work for the victory condition (like research all 4 endless techs), and then leave the alliance and win because you've met the solo condition.

In Empire Screen (F1) you can switch to victory conditions. That place you can see what you need for to win. Just hover over the different victory types.

I think he was asking BEFORE he makes an alliance

Yes I am not asking about how it works, I am asking about how I can evaluate it best

You know how it works, if you do it and recheck ingame. At least this is what I'm doing in case of learning about game mechanics. It doesn't harm as long as you save game. Guess I'm too much "old school" for to be helpful nowadays.
