This DLC is weird. What you're getting is the Academy turned into a new, unplayable civ.
I'm still not running into anything that ruins the game like the pre-update reviews say Awakening did. The most annoying thing I've run into is the academy can instantly take an unclaimed system in the middle of your empire. But you can buy it from them for influence, so its not a big deal.
But as I play with it more, Awakening looks to have the potential to break the game making it too easy. I did gain control of the academy fleet, and I'm not talking about that. The academy fleet is powerful but slow. I wound up getting the ability to build a large academy ship before turn 100 which is a huge advantage.
I'm not sure the dlc is worth full price, but after my latest game, I do think its worth picking up now.
Turns out I was getting crushed in donations since I was playing as the Sophons. Late game I was constantly broke. I guess the Sophons snort dust.
If the dev is still reading this thread, there's a major bug in Endless Space 2 that's been there from the start. The bug is all ships get stuck on planets and never move. They have move points, I command them to move, and they never go anywhere.
This appears to be caused by moving populations between planets. If a ship carrying population gets stuck outside a planet (because its full), this tends to bug every ship in the game.
Thankfully quitting and restarting the game seems to fix it.
