Colony amount restrictions
How do i remove this. as its very difficult to see how a game can be won if you cant take over systems or create more. at what point does the game just allow to play like every other game and go to war and take over enemy colonies? i am struggling with happiness due to many colonies. i have 6 minors and cannot get more as i cant get missions from them as i have to many colonies it seems.

if i cant progress as normal and conquest the galaxy then what is the point of the game..

is their a mod that moves the penalty for how many colonies you have?

You sure the reason you can't get misions is from having too many colonies?
Later in the game you unlock a system improvement that increases your overcolonization threshold.
Personally it's never been much of an issue.

There's a tech that adds 2 to your limit.
The "federation" government expands the limit.
There is an additional tech, late game, that gives an improvement for lvl 4 systems that makes them not count against your limit.

I've never reached an overcolonization point where I stopped getting missions from minors. Usually its because even though I'm over 50% with them, they are allied with another faction already (but haven't converted).

Most disturbing part is NPC colonizing as many systems as visible like they have no overcolonization limit indeed.
I have nothing against that limit understanding its reasoning, but AI should comply it aswell. Or remove it for player too. There must be equality in any chosen case otherwise game starts loosing immertion when player is faced with some garbage like that.

i have 9 minors. 25 systems with 61 planets and 5 more being colonised. new colonies have 9 happiness and start leaving . i transfer from starport my main people. have to buy lots of heros to try and have them counter teh happiness issue when conony formed. but i cant buy enough of them.

i have both techs from left side - xeno anthropology and culture invertecs this mitigate the conony issue bby 6 planets only. I do not see any other tech that will help

the game will be unplayable if i cant take over enemy worlds.

After you start upgrading you systems to Lvl 4, and you researched https://endless-space-2.fandom.com/wiki/Cultural_Invertics you can build Autonomous administration improvement which increases limit by +1.:steamfacepalm:

What are you even doing with 25 systems. WHy colonize so much stuff early, you're just penalizing your actually good systems.

this is my first game, i have no idea how to pace it. i just do what i always do. dominate, build up and allow others to build up. so that later in game when its a challenge i go to war after all tech reserched

I remember large empires collapsing by going hard over the overcolonization limit resulting in unrests in all of their systems. I even remember very strong AI empires getting 100% destroyed, that way. So be careful, young Padawan, or learn the hard way,.. "Doing what you always do" (in other 4x games) can lead to self-destruction in case of Endless Space 2. So be prepared and always plan ahead, when it comes to spreading wide and overcolonization effects. Also keep an eye on overpopulation on your systems planets.

good thing i went with gene splicing. by picking up and boosting those with happy trait bonus i will be able to get my pop to do +10 happy per pop. so i should be able to get out of this soon and expand to 120 planets. as the pop happy bonus will suck up the 100% negative over colony pen. or so i am planning to see happen. will see if it works out that way.

Overpopulation isn't a serious concern though, and you can't really control it unless you were shipping off populations constantly.

my way around it is to suicide pops to another planet that is already full. the pops generate to fast for the game. it needs to be slower. or reduce the tech that make them overpopulate. all other games have a way to manage population growth. But this game does not. it needs to be able to do something to allow player to stop pop growth at a certain point

But you want your systems at max population. The only penalty is a slight unhappiness while producing more of everything else, and later on you can convert all your food production into industry once the system is full.

but i get -16 to -20 for overpopuation on planet. atm i have half planets under 50% and 10 under 10%. so this is an issue with large pops until i can splice enough with happy traight to counter negative effects.

my next time i will be creating a gene splicing race race with happy traits i think
