You know, I'd be inclined to think the same way... if it wasn't for the Total War: Warhammer game. I mean, I'm not exactly the biggest Warhammer buff (I find the W40K much more fun anyway) but when you just start THINKING about the very basics of that setting, you start with the Empire and the Chaos and then start expanding from that starting point into the rest of the world.
But they still took one of those two factions and made one of them into DLC. And Chaos is already IN THE GAME, they're the main antagonists of the campaign, so there's no excuse for them not being part of the base game but nope, they're sold as pre-order DLC.
So who's to say they won't pull a similar move with Endless Space 2? They just need to find the faction that's the most popular to pull out and sell it separately.
I plan on buying this game anyway, thats why I will preorder as soon as possible (however this takeover rises the question if there even will be an early access program for this game). I would bet on the United Empire being a preorder DLC in sort of a "Humanity DLC" including them and maybe the Pilgrims (if they still exist).
I wonder what race is the most popular and I wonder how SEGA will justify asking Amplitude to cut that race and make it DLC.
The same lame excuse Total war came up with why Chaos DLC could not be free. Production cost, bla bla, we really want to give it to you for free but we cant *sniff* (crocdile tears falling)...
Nnnnope, Endless Space 2 is going to be published by Sega now.

Oh no...god...really?
smh...
a sad day indeed...
It's sad that Amplitude teamed up with Sega since Amplitude was a company I had 100% loyalty to and Sega is a company that...I like their IPs..and that's it... I love Warhammer and I love Total War so buying TWarhammer would sound like a no brainer right? No, I still waited to buy the game for about 2 weeks.
I'm thinking ES2 just went from a day 1 buy to a "wait and see" kinda game...
Endless Space 2 will be released to Early Access with four factions, two of which have already been announced (Sophons & Cravers).
Four more factions will join the game post-EA, bringing the total for the official release to a total of eight factions. Similarly to Endless Legend and the first Endless Space, one of the eight factions will be designed by the community through a G2G contest.
That contest, by the way, will be starting in the coming weeks, so if you guys have been daydreaming about how that creation of yours would be a great fit, make sure to stay tuned for the upcoming announcement...
