Should I try Endless Space 2 without having played the first one?
Hi!

I have played Endless Legends in the past and I really liked it. I saw this game and I loved the art-style. Should I try this without having tried the first one?

Have a good summer you all! ^^

Yeah, no problem, there isn't an overarching story from Space 1 to Space 2.

Thanks for correcting me! I don't know why I wrote "Legends" instead of Space. Sorry!

So, this game is a complete upgrade of the first one?

It's more of a fresh take on it, some things got simplified, some got expanded by a lot.

In general I'd say ES2 is much better game than ES1. Only things really missing from ES1 is some of the major factions that didn't make it, especially unique ones like Harmony, but then again, second one has some new ones too and faction quests flesh them out much better.

Perfect! I have bought it!

In case you make use of ESG mod, you could go for the following mod, too, for to play the Harmony faction again:

I would also recommend not playing with Penumbra and Awakening DLC (also Dark Matter - it's bugged), at least for the first playthrough. They add somewhat broken/annoying mechanics, which may spoil the experience until you learn the basics. I pretty much played the base game until I tried out all the base factions first, and can say that there are no "essential" DLCs for this game.

I puirchased the definitive edition pack. I think it contains all DLCs.

You can turn on/off any DLC at will through steam library.

Understood! Should I try the easy mode on the first game?

Depends on how familiar you are with 4X games. But yes I would recommend a small/tiny galaxy on easy or normal, or even on sandbox difficulty, so that you're not too distracted with wars at first.
