Pirates cutting tendrils for Unfallen

I have a series of star systems in a line and pirates have appears early on in the chain (closer to the home system). There are no other tendrils going around the pirates so I know they will cut the rest off, however I would have thought if I destroy the pirates quickly and get vineships to the star system before the entwine value reaches 0% the rest of the systems (past the pirated system) shouldn’t lose their tendrils. However they do, even though the percentage didn’t reach 0% a few turns later all the systems past the pirated one were lost.

Am I missing something or is this a glitch?

From the sound of it the pirates have taken control of the system itself even though you have fought off their fleet. Unless you have also cleared out the pirate base on the planet surface, the vines will continue to be destroyed.

I made sure to clear out the pirates from the planets too, they were wiped out from the system completely. Still a few turns after that, despite having vine ships working there to renew the tendrils (the entwine value never dropped to 0%) the link was lost.
