Should I build everything, everywhere?
I know this comes up, but in most games I end up building everything, everywhere I can . Should I ocus certain sectors to specific needs? Is that not recommended here because in my last game I bankrupted my economy and I'm pretty sure it was because of upgrade costs.

Be selective until late game where you have enough dust per planet/system to build most things. Depends on your faction and the planets themselves.

Not really. Lots of buildings have conditional bonuses (like they might require specific climates or the presence of anomalies/strategic resources) so based on that you can prioritize what to actually build. You could potentially buy everything mid-late game but some stuff just won't benefit certain systems that much.

So would you say in places where you don't need to build something, just put that system on one of the FIDS focuses?

Don't build everything everywhere, sometimes it isn't worth the upkeep.
Especially on depleted planets, or negative anomalies.
Or systems that have 1 type of planets mostly, like lava - ash would be a great system to invest in industry bonus building.

The system that is sitting idle, u can use it to convert industry to dust or research if u got that "construction" unlocked.

It's what I do mid to late game for all my games. Why have a planet being idle, not contributing to science, food or industry? The industry to science tech(Planetcracker I think it's called on the right side of the tech tree) is great.

Remember though, these techs will block your consturction queue on that planet and nothing under it will be built. Simple drag a new building or ship above that tech in the queue.

Haven't really tried that. Normally when I have a new system to build up I just queue like four or five buildings and let the system be for a while. If it's a more developed system then I'm probably alternating between making buildings and ships with it.

Also u can terraform don't forget that.

The problem is (and my biggest pet peve with this game by far), there are many buildings you will never, ever want to build in many systems. But you can't get rid of them. They just clutter up every systems production area, more and more as the games goes on, forcing you to sort through them every time you pick more to build. :steamfacepalm:

Be selective. Generally you can get away with whatever but certain factions like Vodyani have much stricter requirements.

Prioritize production followed by science with Dust as a possible second.

Economic wins are the easiest win imo. This relies on you grabbing up resource and/or planet rich systems. If you play defensively its actually especially fun to terrform everything into the Atoll/Ocean. But if you an afford the happiness hit it might be worth it to populate Arid planets.

DO NOT be afraid to skip things. If one bvuilding gives you +1 production per pop and +3 production per sterile and you dont have any sterile planets due to terraforming or whatver just skip it and focus on something else. You should have something to build or infinite projects.

Don't be afraid to break buildings. I maxxed out my science 3/5ths of the way through do to good initial positioning and didnt need science at all any more so I got rid of every building that boosted science. Dont get rid of food, dust or production buildings though, production and dust are always needed and food can max your pops but a later game tech lets you convert food excess food to manpower and dust.
