Stellaris is an RTS and it takes a long time, this game has all players move at once and still takes a long time.
You can always create smaller galaxies and play with a smaller amount of player.
You have modules that you install on ships, and different ships hulls, rock paper scissors style.
When you encounter an enemy fleet you have "cards" that you choose the tradjectory of your approach and get all kinds of buffs\debuffs. The combat itself is auto resolve with an option to watch the animation play out like Stellaris did only here it's in 3D.
Thanks for the free weekend :)
