If you disagree, I suggest you try a game as the UC, build a Trade HQ, and see what happens ^^'. That should open your eyes (if the superior cloaking, movable home system, hacking bonuses, monster production and science, easy-to-manage happiness, and etc. didn't already convince you - lol).
The Nakalim are...ehhh...pretty bad, actually, although interesting nonetheless. They're a good "gimp" faction, however, when trying to handicap multiplayer games between different-skill humans ^^'. And the Cravers are decent but have stinky late-game performance.
I never allow Cravers to deplete core planets.
Always ferry them away just shy of depleting high production planets.
That kind of helps a lot with their supposed late game performance. I have nice performance in systems with lots upgrades (built when cravers were there) managed by whatever population I could bring there.
Cravers will stay on low production planets in late game.
The I will cleanse the Galaxy super fast tier: Cravers, Vodyani and Riftborn
I can still be quite OP: Sophon, United Empire
Can steamroll if given the right galaxy: Horatio
Still Ok: Lumeris and Unfallen
Did not try DLC´s yet
Not gonna lie, whenever I play cravers I play suuuper sub-optimally 'cause I never actually want to do any of the slavery. Which means transport every craver to a empty five planet system and keep only minor factions growing throughout the empire.
But about the depletion thing, getting behemoth terraformation tech helps a lot when you want to take full advantage of the cravers population bonus--along with a craver hero's final craver ability that greatly boosts FIDSI output of the system. I can easily get close to 15K influence production on a large enough system with a craver hero fully unlocked(and the right Influence luxuries).
