Why can't I attack this pirate?
It says scavenging pirate and it is on my home planet but I can't attack it. Kind of hate the fact it does nothing and just watch me...pervert!! Anyone have a clue what this is and what can I do about it?

I've had these things appear in just about every game session. They seem to be neutral fleets that don't do anything, but I've yet to discover anything else about them.

yea same and for the life of me cant figure out its purpose. it must do something.

I believe that they are generated by quests for other factions, so they won't allow you to kill it because that would break the quest.

Is that the one that shows up because of the "save the core/save the crew" quest?

you know what...I think you are right. If I am not mistaken, i had that quest pop up. I wish these things were marked better. Should say QUEST in gold bold letters to seperate them from normal fleets.

I currently have a civilian behemoth orbiting one of my systems right now, actually.

yeah, see i dont get things like this. i run into a lot of things that belong to no faction and are just flying around or sitting on my planets. if it is quest based, they need to be marked properly. I need to know that this is a quest item and I shouldnt care about it. Though I dont know why I cant mess up a quest for another faction. a lot of mechanics just dont make sense sometimes.

The civ behemoth gives a minor event-buff for killing it, no idea why it's there (a hissho thing maybe???).

Agreed that the quest fleets should be marked, especially since EL did this to good effect. Regarding killing other peoples quest targets, this seems to count as if they'd gotten the kill, so if anything you're helping.

:steamfacepalm: this game is so backwards sometimes...lol.

If other factions kill your quest target, you most definitely DO NOT get credit. The "Mercenary Fleet" quest is a perfect example.

Oh I know. I just meant that we should be able to hinder our enemies, by destroying their targets. we should be able to make them fail their quests.

Like I said, you CAN. And they'll do it to you. Not all can be intercepted but many can be messed with. The one where you protect the prototype ship is another.

Of course, you have to be lucky to come across the target at exactly the right time. But it does happen.

Is merc fleet the one where you have to intercept the ship, or the one where you have to kill it? I recently got the reward from the latter while I didn't have vision of the target, I can see why the former would break from someone else killing the target ofc.

It's the one where you are tasked to send an expedition to a nearby system, where if you explore the indicated anomaly, it spawns a relatively strong "pirate" fleet (which WILL be hoatile, peace with the pirates or not).
