New to game, patrol wont let me send it anywhere

I am very new to game, going through first game beginner. I was able to explore a bit, but after reaching a system my patrol ship cannot take any paths. I cannot send it on a new path,or back the way it came but its showing up as idle. Im sure im doing something wrong, but not sure what.

Does this persist over several turns?

Perhaps you have closed borders with an other faction what isolates your patrol ship? In case you did research free movement you should be able to aim for to target a friendly system to move this place?

Did you tell the fleet to sleep/wait? they can't take movement orders while in those stances.

Good catch, as long as Insoniac Cyber points out to be new to the game. Apart from sleep/wait it could be the defend order (shield symbol) what prevents from moving.

This case you have visually activated symbols on the lower left side of screen, if you left mouse click on your fleet/ship. A left mouse click on activated symbols should deactivate the given order(s).

Another idea came into my mind. I remember a quest or event what did you let choose between to "bad" options. The 1st option was to choose decreased energy for a (certain?) fleet for some turns. The 2nd option was to set movement for a fleet to 0 (or was it -2?) for some turns.

Also, just to check the basics, you have hit the End Turn button, correct? You could just be out of movement points for this turn. If you're used to real-time games and you got lucky with initial placement, you might be fooled into thinking you can just keep moving.

Thank you all for the responses. After restarting the game when I loaded up the save file today I was able to move my ships.
