I hate watching other people play games. But, since this game has no tutorial, I will settle for watching someone play the game so I can follow that pattern, as this game is designed to be as unintuitive as possible, with no labels for any useful action.

...that said. There are still 3 unlabeled boxes in the planet screen.
"those 3 boxes each have a small symbol in the middle of them that if you put your arrow above it will tell you what they are for. Grayish column on the left side of each with a symbol in the middle, put your arrow above it."
Yep! That is correct. If you move your mouse around and hover over every single border icon, you will eventually discover something that says "This panel shows the construction queue of your colony".
...that is not good game design. I don't really care about this game anymore; I gave it a night and tried really hard, but it's just unplayable. ES1 was OK, and Endless Legend was pretty good. So I'll fall back to those and consider this a sunk cost. I wish this game was better. Having menus with names is actually useful. ES2 likes to have unnamed menus. I don't think any sane person would think that's a good idea, but I'm just a consumer, so what do I know?
I would recommend game guides by GUD. It's entertaining. Keep in mind the different factions have different mechanics. Apart from your opinion I can't confirm game is unplayable - are you joking? In case hovering mouse over icons to read the tooltips is too uncomfortable or exhausting anyone can help you in 2019. It's one of the best UIs in my opinion. Not sure why you don't get used to it, as you pretend you tried very hard. If I read you did play Endless Legend and Endless Space 1 I can't believe you're having trouble playing Endless Space 2. But hey, we all are just consumers, perhaps it's simply not your cup of coffee. Your decision to miss this cool 4x game.
I played Endless Legend, and it was good. I played Endless Space 1, and it was fun, though a bit limited. You can malign me as much as you want; I don't really care, I just want an example of playing ES2, so I can actually play the game.
As for the UI, I mean -
You have 3 boxes at the bottom of your screen. I can't tell you what they are since they have no labels. But let's say, hypothetically, that they did have labels. Say, A, B, and EVIL.
Everyone knows what to pick. You pick A if you're not evil or C if you are evil. There does not seem to be a good choice. But, these are just random guesses.
Can ES2 use more tooltips and/or labels? Perhaps so; I agree that it's possible the devs sometimes take their GUI aesthetic a bit too far. But silly, obviously untrue hyperbole — no, the game is NOT "unplayable"; everyone starts as a noob, of course — won't advance your point one iota.
To answer your earlier question, colonizer ships don't go to new planets in the same system, they have to go to new systems. This has changed since ES1.
All that said, yes this game could absolutely use more tooltips. The "system development upgrade" is an example of one that's super opaque. We're told it's not available, the way to make it available is in a relatively subtle part of the research tree, and we basically have to figure out how it works through trial and error. That's a problem the game has, and if it's such a dealbreaker then yeah this might not be a game you'll enjoy.
This made me laugh.
If you really want someone to teach you what everything is, we can do a Discord call and I can explain what you dont know. Kind of a loss on you to hate something because it doesnt look like what YOU think it should look. I was never confused by the UI but I have played so many 4x games I just know what is what. I am confused by mechanics and some choices they have made with Space/Ground battles but that is a whole other story.
Let me know if you want me to coach you a bit so you can at least understand what is on your screen.
