Why are ships graphics hollow?
It's really looks dumb to see hollow looking ships, so why are they hollow?

Because, according to donut-legend, the center of the first donut was gooey and uncooked, so the baker poked out the gooey part.

Are you saying spaceships are also gooey?

Because it's an easy to see graphical representation of a fleet on a non-scale map. It would look "more dumb" if there were realistic looking ships larger than stars moving around.

Short answer: the game is already demanding enough graphics-wise. But i agree they should hide it better.

No it's really not and space ships should look like, well space ships not a hollow wire frame. For the record Dount's looks a hell of a lot better.

Has Astasia said, it's because they are holographic representation of the fleet. The whole game is basically a huge holographic table with everything the leader (you) has to see. Real ship would also make them extremely hard to see/recognize due to the fact that only the faction icon is coloured (which would be extremely small) and that some ships, like the Umbra Choird, are dark.

It might look "good", but it'd be much more difficult to quickly read the situation on the map.

I don't even think it would look good. As you said, it would basically need to be covered whole in flat colour to make it easy to recognize. And even if it wasn't, then I prefer tech-y looking holographic pawn on my map to either plastic one, cheap and bare or slightly more expensive and painted.

The only thing I entartain about this idea is that little ship models could turn to current ones when pressing space and that would look kinda cool.

Will this thread carry on Lord Haart's legacy? I approve OP, you are doing god's work.

In all seriousness though this has been debated to death and if there was going to have been a change to the wireframes it would've already happened. Your best hope would be for a mod of some kind.
