Thankfully though my series of hero ship reskins greatly improve the look of the hero ships & the black & gold trim reskin is the highest rated ES2 mod!
I am of two minds though, I do like modding my games (and creating them), doesn't matter which game. For me, it adds a level of replayability, and for some games, it just adds more levels. But I usually play the "vanilla" version first, to see exactly what I would like to change or alter before modding, makes sense, right?
OP:
There are about 6 pages of mods (currently 180) and I can understand the confusion, but to get to "must haves"? Hard to say exactly as it can boil down to subjective viewpoints, instead, base it on these two criteria: (Most Popular) of all time, and (Most Subscribed) . Some examples (be wary of conflicts):
Black Heros currently leads the list for "Most Popular of all time". It is a reskin mod.

... and "story mods" like Endless Romance

Most mods except the "art work" mods will disable the "achievements", so if you have'nt gotten those and want to get them, be mindful of the ones that will disable it.
For myself, I am looking for a Sound mod, it doesn't exist yet, but I am hopeful, if not, then I may end up doing it myself. Can you guess what it is? Hint: In space, there is no sound, but the Battlestar Galactica remake did a nice audio compromise.
Well i wasnt looking for mods that alter the gameplay much. Additions, qol changes, skins, etc are all welcome imo.
That being said, i am a huge fan of mods, doesnt matter what game it is and I will often mod my games even when i first play it but in those cases i stick to small mods that dont alter vanilla experience. Once i play vanilla a bit, once i get the feel for it i then start adding more complex mods. I generally stay away from total overhaul and similar mods.
Besides i had experienced the game in its vanilla state before.
@BuffHamster
Thanks for the suggestions, i already have a few of those. Ill check the rest later.
And ofc that its all subjective ... what i meant by must have was what are the must have mods according to others.
Wrong, it's many players opinion that the vanilla hero ship textures are poor and look like plastic toys.
The ratings back you up on that Jaylo, with the Black & Gold being at the top of the list, I like it too, makes them look less, civilian?
What's your take on the other mods?
