Vines Taking Over my Nodes
I'm really new to this game, so it's frustrating to be finally doing semi-well, and the Unfallen come in with their vines and take over the black holes and other nodes that were really helping me stay afloat. I am at peace with them in an alliance. Do I need to break the alliance and try to keep them out of my systems? Their vines have already taken over one node that was giving me a lot of dust and they are on a path to two more.

Look into your diplomacy options with the culprit. Tell them to stop influencing you and hopefully they will say something to the effect of .... how stupid you are to stop them doing a helpful thing but they will do ass you ask. Otherwise they will say no and your deal is as good as dead ... for now! They can and do change their minds. you will need to do this each time you see those tendrils reaching out.

If you're in an alliance, the vines shouldn't cause any negative effect for you.

They DO cause a negative effect, as they take away the regional benefits you get from having control of those extras. If you have a large empire that can be a crippling reduction in benefits.

Oh you mean the nodes. The production rate of systems controlled by you won't be affected though.

You should verify that they actually stole the special node. IIRC, as long as you've already secured it, you still get the benefit even after it's vined. As for your systems, there's no harm to letting them in while allied, a human player will capitalize on it and make you cry, but I've never seen the AI do that to any meaningful extent.

Man up, move in with fleets, drop them from your Alliance and then kick them out by force.

Alliances are usefull at times, but not with all factions and even less if they are right next to your systems.

Peace and love is nice, but war is even better. :)

Well when I get a warning saying I have lost the node I take that to mean I lost the benefit too.

Yup, that's what I figured too because I got a notification that they now control it.

So I don't have any options like that in Diplomacy mode--unless I am not looking in the right place, which could be a possibilty as I am still learning the game.

HaHa! SO what I would do in Civilization! Sadly, as I am new at this game, I haven't yet figured out all of the battle stuff. I'll get there, but my military totally sucks right now.

I've forgotten where those options appear but hopefully one of the more experienced helpful players will explain.

Yes, on the first time the Unfallen start entangling your planetary systems(not special nodes) you do get the option to go into the diplomacy screen and ask/demand them to stop doing that(idunno if it still persists after you don't do that).

Yes, the Unfallen do get the effects of special nodes if they vine them.

Yes, even in an alliance, those special nodes become the property of the Unfallen the moment they entangle them.

Yes, the system/s that lost the node lose the effects. Although, things are pretty dire for you if that/those special node/s is/are the only thing/s preventing you from losing the game.

Yes, you will have to break the alliance and close borders to cut the vines and regain control of those special nodes.

Now, is vineing of special nodes an act of aggression? In an alliance? Eh...
I guess if you're the super aggressive type or something. The A.I Unfallen(I think it's implied in their personality traits) is not gonna go all crazy by thinking they got the upper hand and break the alliance they have with you just because they vine a special node that's under your control, nor have I ever seen an instance to where the Unfallen A.I steals planets from an opponent they're at peace with(probably because I always see them reduced to one planet in the corner of the galaxy in most of my games >.>).

It really depends upon where those critical vines are. In my last game the Unfallen were my ONLY neighbour until I could cross open space. So my growth was hampered from early game. I have only played as the militarist humans [forgot their names] I still won but only after a carefujl alliance that took out most of my real enemies for me :)

The Unfallen certainly took a key planet off me as it was their only way to expand South of their territory and their enemies were aggresively taking over on all other fronts. So I ended up attacking them too and using their planets to fund a major expansion of my fleet. In 2 other games I faced them I had very little problem with them and they were part of an alliance with 2 other aliens between them and my space,

After I expanded I learned that the key system was only 3 systems from the Unfallen Homeworld, so perhaps that made the difference as my own fleet build up caused them to distrust me even before I had realised I would need to break them.
