Report a translation problem
In order for spaceports to work, you have to manually drag population markers from your planets into the spaceport slots and then click the icon to the right and choose a destination.
If you're doing all of this and it's not working, then yeah, there's a serious problem there somewhere.
It should be mentioned, you don't need to have for trade (routes). You can have trade routes within your own empire, too.

Incorrect. I did recheck a savegame. In case you have a trade route within your own empire (I did have no external ones) and anyone blocks it (pirates or enemy factions fleets) you get dust, luxuries and/or science out of it - depending on what trade ships you choose to push.
Something weird is going on, I've had successful trade routes before (in other games in the past)...some bug is occuring...possibly linked to some of this newer official content/updates...
