Because I have a deficit because of my sizeable fleet and Im too greedy to retire my fleets...

the usual way would be through unlocking dust related system improvements (typically on the right hand tech quadrant)...

Uh, I guess you could also do some terraforming of planets from one type to another that provides more dust. For, example from Lava into Desert. I guess terraforming to planet types with larger population capacities would also provide more dust as you have more people meaning more yields (terran is decent for that being high pop cap and relatively high dust for comparable planets).

Trade routes can be lucrative, but take a while to set up. In the long run their profits are tremendous and unbounded (they can keep going up), but it's vulnerable to shenanigans in a way that simple dust providing system improvements aren't.

Thank you ThePoe! Much appreciated!

In addition, you can specialise all your sterile (I think) planets to dust. You can also check population, some give extra cash if they are on a certain type of planet

As Poe mentioned - first go for system improvement, then planet types, then go for Trade Routes (especially if playing Lumeris - they cannot be blocked during Cold War so money flows no matter what).
But what I saw gives me Huge boost was a Lumeris hero on a planet with Luxury Deposits (with special tech and hero abilities it gives sh...t time of money) with a Trade Route - made me accidentally won by acquiring f...ck ton of Dust in no time😁

Thank you!

Theres this one improvement that gives every planet in the empire a boost for every development level the planet has.
Besides specialising the level-up somewhat on Dust (if you have the right luxury-ressources), having that and developing the level of your worlds gives quite a lot of Dust.

If I remember correctly galadon3 You refer to Luxury based System improvement. If You obtain 1 or two specific luxuries (check in luxury panel) you can make System Improvement that gives either flat bonus or bonus per Pop on each planet in Dust which can make you Dustillionaire in no time ;)

Unless You're a Lumeris as I've mentioned. The don't give jack'o'sht about cold war😂

If you have a sizable junk of systems under your control, trade routes are the way to go
Longest the distance/trade cargo ships bought - more dust/resources will flow so You need to plan some routes to not get screwed by shortcuts. And separate systems without starlanes cannot be a part of Trading Co.

I have started many wars because the AI have decided to blockade a trade route lol
When you plan your election before go to war/lay a siege, blockade or simply make bypass with System that has Trade Co. HQ or subsidiary You can go for Religious Law on Senate that make you able to attack enemy fleet that besieged Your/neutral system. Thou You're not forced to declare War and by that waste influence or negative relation with other empires.

I learn from You, You from Me, We from the posts like Pilgrim made😀
Glad that I've helped.
I still can't decide if it's that the game is complex or it lacks good translation within it or on wikis.
For example there is no clear information on what next hull type that You want to invent excels.
So You're either left to do the hard math by Yourself or find some in web(there is excel Fri with it)
And what if I need to adjust on flow? What if I'm in between teching for bigger hull or get weapon/support/hull tech upgrade?Do I really need to tab out or look on phone for it? Amplitude, fix it. We had better science screen and descriptions in ES 1.
Cheers Man!

Also, they seriously need to reduce the pop ups in this game. I swear, this game needs an ad blocker lol

You can sort the pop ups by importance. These of low priority will pop up in small boxes to the right in sreen.

I have disabled almost every pop-up, lol.
