How to retrofit ships?

hello guys.

you buy a ship.
then you upgrade that ship because you get new modules.

how do i upgrade the ship i have already bought? in endless space 1 you did that with dust in a star system, but i cant seem to find it this time.

I don't know about mercinaries and purchased ships. Here's how I normally do it.
Build ship(explorer 4) on system. Make new design (explorer 5). Click on fleet with the explorer ship and somewhere above the ship pictures is the retrofit button, press that and spend dust/strategics. Done.
There are requirements tho, the fleet has to be orbiting a system, and inside your teritory.

You have to upgrade from one design to the next upgraded edited same design. You can't uprade from one design to another design. Even if both designs are of the same ship class. Also in order to upgrade, you have to be orbiting a planet that is within your cultures influence. Select fleet -> select ship -> you will see an icon button for upgrading the ship.
