Move populations between systems?

What do i need to research to be able to move populations between systems?

It's not unlocked by a specific tech, it's unlocked by getting into tier 3 of the Economy and Trade (right) section of the tech tree. As soon as you research two techs in tier 2, tier 3 unlocks and with it comes the "Basic System Development" unlock. This allows you to go into the Economy screen (F3) and specifiy a luxury resourse you want to use for system development.

As soon as you pick a resource and confirm it, you can build the System Development building in your colonies (if you have the resources, it's 25x for the first level).

Doing this also provides a free spaceport, which you can use to move pop around between other colonies with a spaceport, too. After unlocking higher tier development projects, your spaceport can ferry more people at once.

so funny, i can move ships, colony ships but not pop hahaha

A level 2 colony can transport pop. Make sure you set the destination correctly before you do.

Does it take an equivalent number of turns to move a group from one system to another as if you were moving a ship? I don't see any "ETA" listed, but I put a bunch of population into multiple slots from multiple systems, sent them to my main system and 2-3 turns later they're still not there. How do I know how long it will take?

You can see the tiny ships leave the system, and trave to the system you indicated. Beware, pirates and enemies love to swat those flys.

AH! that makes sense. Those "outline" ships on the lanes... OK

Suggestion for dev: I mouse-over those and nothing happens. Should show some small text maybe saying from where / to where.

You will also see tiny ships that represent the gold/food transporting to a starting colony when you chose to invest to speed development. Enimies/Pirates love to destory those too.
