How long does he tutorial last?
I've started the beginner tutorial and wondered if it cuts off at one point and you start your own game or if it goes right the way through to an end game?

Yes it cuts off at one point... for me it was around turn 170, when it turned out, that a victory by wonders is not possible, because the obelisks you have to build are not shown in any of your systems. And no I don't think this is as intended it is just one more of these game breaking bugs this game offers.

But to answer your question more seriously, for me the tutorial game went until turn 210, until I lost to another faction's normal economic victory. It was to late for me to change my strategy again into another direction after this "game breaking bug" I experienced.

I think what's being asked is do you get a final message saying you've learnt all the tutorial can teach you/seen all the tutorial messages with an option to continue?

No, it is not a waste of time if this is what you want to know. Like you have run 100 rounds and then it suddently stops and tells you to start new again. No, it is like a normal game with a teacher going more into detail with explanations.

It is not a tutorial that tells you what you have to do now and does not allow anything else. It is more like someone explaining you the UI and the possibilities you have in the game. Of course there is something like a guideline but in fact you just play how you want and from time to time someone explains you new things that you have unlocked or researched or new possibilities you have. End there is no real end of these tutorial lessons, even if you start a "real game" you get such advisory messages from your tutor. The only difference I remember between the tutorial game and the "real game" was that the lessons you learn in the beginning of the tutorial game are more focused on explaining every different screen, while later on and in real games it teaches you more advanced techniques and mechanics. Hope this helps more.

Adding to Perijax's post: in the game options, you can select advanced, expert or no tutorial, but no beginner. If you select no tutorial, you won't get any explanations/hints.
