Google Chrome lowers FPS dramatically (G-sync??)
So if I boot up my computer and launch ES2 the first thing I do, it runs at ~100 FPS at max graphic settings, both menus and in-game. If I however start the web browser (Chrome) before I run the game, it gets stuck between 20-26 FPS both in menus and in-game.

If I start Chrome AFTER launching the game it has no impact whatsoever, still runs at 100 FPS.

lolwut?

Haven't tested if any other programs impacts the game, I just have to reboot and start ES2 immediately to solve the issue, just a hassle.

i7 4790 @ 3,6 GHz
GTX 1080
16 GB RAM
Win 10

EDIT:

Turning off G-sync seems to have fixed it, it now runs high FPS regardless of Chrome, and when I switch G-sync on again (only in fullscreen) it still runs at 100 FPS after re-starting the game.

It might have something to do with G-sync and multiple monitors, remembering I had similar issues with Hearthstone dropping to low FPS with G-sync but skyrocketing again as soon as I had it in the background.

This ♥♥♥♥ is wierd.

Main monitor is a G-sync 1440p @ 144Hz, second monitor standard 1080p @ 60 Hz.

Chrome is notorious for being a performance hog, I always have it closed for running stuff.
Are you new to PC or something to not know that Chrome is well know to eat a lot of RAM.....

I had a slightly bizarre problem also involving Chrome but I can't say it was related. Things were super slow then I noticed one cpu core was at 100%. Checked in task manager and found Endless Space and Chrome both had their affinity locked to a single core. Setting them both to all processors fixed it. I have no idea how this happened, I don't have any utility that sets affinity.

Thats more like you are running the game on your Integrated GPU.

"Hi there,

What we specified was for the Early Access, to make sure no customers would buy the game without being able to play it.

We have worked a lot on Intel HD cards since then, and we will consider changing the minimal spec.

Cheers,"

Also I tested on 2 Integrated GPU

Low Spec
OS: Windows 8.1
CPU: Intel i5-3210M
Integrated GPU: Intel(R) HD Graphics 400
Graphic Setting: Fastest
Resolution: 720p 1366x768
Vsync: Off
Set Max Frame Rate 30, Smooth though some stuttering

High Spec
OS: Windows 10
CPU: Intel i7-7700HQ
Integrated GPU: Intel(R) HD Graphics 630
Graphic Setting: Fantastic
Resolution: 1080p 1920x1080
Vsync: Off
Set Max Frame Rate 60, it ran very smooth

Actually the game now runs at least on most Intel based DX11 cards. It's not officially supported but it does run

I don't have an integrated gpu. Anyway the point was, sometimes these problems are surprising.

When the game stays at low FPS.. I just noticed, when I don't have it focused, it goes up to 100 FPS, but as soon as I switch to ES2, the FPS goes down again. What the the hell causes that?

Chrome is a major RAM eater.
b1t May 21, 2017 @ 7:52am
Don't think Chrome eating RAM is an issue, I have plenty of RAM left with Chrome and games running.

Makes me glad I spend $200 on a dual 1080p setup rather than $500 on a single monitor with Gsync/Freesync :steammocking:
