Uninstall Razer Chroma

Having older or badly installed Razer Chroma drivers causes issues. Please either update to the latest version or uninstall Razer Chroma entirely and reboot.

Use Beta Branch

There's still some issues with Razer Chroma for some users. If uninstalling Razer Chroma doesn't resolve your issue please opt into the Razer Chroma beta branch

* Go to your LIbrary
* Right click -> Properties on "Endless Space 2"
* Click "BETAS" tab
* click arrow button beside the "Select the beta you would like to opt into:
* Select "chroma - Bug Fix for Chroma"
* Click "Close"

The game will perform an update. Please report if this fix still doesn't address your issue

Disable Microsoft One Drive

Microsoft One Drive seems to do something ot the My Documents folder that prevents some files from being created. Please try to disable/uninsatall One Drive and see if that addresses your issue

Audio but No Video

If you can hear music but cannot see anything, its possible the game is incorrectly setting the resolution.

* Go to Start > Run > regedit.exe
* navigate to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Amplitude Studios\Endless Space 2
* Manually set these key. Make sure the DECIMAL radio button is selected
* Screenmanager Resolution Height_h2627697771 = 1080
* Screenmanager Resolution Width_h182942802 = 1920

Disable or Uninstall Bit Defender

There seems to be a rash of reports due to BitDefender silently kililng the game. If you're having an issue try disabling or uninstalling bitdefender entirely.

Go through all troubleshooting steps. Yes ALL OF THEM

Make sure you have done EVERYTHING here first before proceeding

FreeType6.DLL Issues

If you see a freetyp6.dll error in your output_log.txt it means your vcredist installation is corrupted.

* Go to C:\windows\system32
* Rename msvcr100.dll to something else
* Run <steam>\steamapps\common\Endless Space 2\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2010\vcredist_x64.exe
* REBOOT

This will reinstall the dll causing the conflict.

Run a FULL UPDATE on any 3rd Party Codecs

If you have a 3rd party codec pack like K-Lite or others fun a FULL update on it. An older ffmpeg.dll file can cause the game to crash.

Things to look for
* Klite Codec Pack
* VLC Player

Run a FULL WINDOWS UPDATE

Ensure you are fully 100% patched on Windows Update. Check the date that your last patch was actually installed. If this date is more than 1 month ago, then you must fix Windows Update first.

Disable videos

A subset of users seem to be having issues with the movies which causes the game to crash on the main menu

• right click->properties on Endles Space 2 in steam
  
• General tab
  
• click"set launch options"

• Click OK
  
• Start game

For all other users please post here. The developers require the following information

1) Dxidag. you can run dxdiag from Start->Run and then click "Save All Information". This will save a file to wherever you indicate

2) Diagnostics.html This will be in My Documents\Endless Space 2\Temporary Files

3) output_log.txt fie which is in \steamapps\common\Endless Space 2\EndlessSpace2_Data

Please upload all of these to any file sharing service/text upload service of your choice.

Understand that the symptom of "the game does not load" can have various multiple root causes. Some are due to AMD drivers. Others are movie related. Others are due to some prerequisites not being installed, etc. Which is why all of the above information is required to understand what your particular problem might be and how it could be solved.

I just re-installed it after trying the beta some time ago.
The game won't start, as mentioned in the headline.

I have tried checking file integrity in steam.
I reinstalled .net from the Endless folder.
I have deleted the user folder in documents
Its on a desktop with a Nvidia GTX 1080 card. So no discrete graphics.
Tried disabling 2nd screen (Mass effect Andromeda, for instance does not like 2nd screen)
I have restarted after all these steps.

Only thing I can see, is Mono.exe missing? Why I just reinstalled the game, shouldn't the game install any dependencies?

You seem to be missing a specific dll file

Can you check in C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Endless Space 2/EndlessSpace2_Data/Plugins/freetype6.dll

Check that dll is there.

if its not please re-verify your game cache, once you do it should download the file.

Are you guys aware the current top mod (the more colors one) breaks the game if you remove it? It seems the feature to remember last settings (great feature btw) can't handle a reset if you remove a mod. Leaves the game unplayable as you can't choose races or start a game.

I solved the problem anyway, I've installed Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable x64 and now it works
