If this is your first time playing FFXIV, first make a Square Enix account here:

Then, on the Steam store, buy the FFXIV game. You can chose either the Starter Edition or the Complete Edition (with all expansions). Link here:

(I would suggest going with just the Starter Edition if it's your first time! It will let you play up to the 3rd expansion, which gives plenty of time for you to decide if you want to buy another further expansions/upgrade to a complete edition!)

Now go to your Steam library, and launch the FFXIV game. You will get a "FINAL FANTASY XIV Online CD key" . Use this key to register your game to your Square Enix account.

Now, go to your Mog Station account (https://www.mogstation.com/) - it's the same login as your Square Enix account.

This is where you will buy subscriptions for game time. BUT DON'T DO IT YET .
Instead, you will start by entering a friend recruitment code to get some nice bonus items. You can only do this BEFORE subscribing for the first time (even if you have the 30 free days that come with the game purchase) :

1) Go to the "Registration Codes" category
2) Click on "Enter Recruitment Code"

Now you're ready to subscribe and start playing! This code will reward you with :

- Friendship Circlet : When worn, increases EXP earned by 20% up to level 25 on every job/class. Makes trying out different classes when you haven't made your mind up easier!

- Aetheryte Ticket x 99 : FFXIV uses a fast travel system that costs gil (the in-game currency) to teleport between Aetheryte crystals around the world. 99 free teleports will let you use your hard-earned gil for more important things!

- Ballroom Etiquette - Improper Greetings : Use to learn an exclusive emote, Fist Bump! (/fistbump or /brofist)

- 10 Silver Chocobo Feathers : Trade to the Calamity Salvager NPC in one of the 3 starting cities (Limsa Lominsa, Gridania, and Ul'dah) for high-end gear (armour) and weapons.
