Graphics issue after 7.5 patch [SOLVED]
Anyone else having graphics issues since the 7.5 patch?

First off I'm playing the game using Lutris on Linux, which is not an officially supported config.

I'm posting here because I haven't found any other mention of similar issues in any of my searches, even in the SE forums so I wanted to see if anyone using Linux/Steam/Proton has ever been seen some thing like this. I can't believe I am the only one who has had this issue, my config might be a bit on the fringe but it's not that far into the abyss.

FFXIV starts and everything is normal for anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes and then the graphics goes completely nuts, the hotbars, inventory, map, and the rest of UI are all fine. Just the everything else looks like a Jason Pollack painting.

It happens in solo instances like a hotel room as well as crowded areas.

I teleport and the general area might fix itself, if I change classes or gear the body goes back to normal but the head/face are either missing or have the same screwed up graphics.

I've tried reinstalling from scratch, changing the screen resolution, refresh rates, and dropped everything graphics related to minimum settings.

All my drivers are updated.

system config;
Debian 12
Intel i7-8700K 3.3Ghz with 16GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti using nvidia driver vr 535.261.03

lutris settings;
DXVK is OFF
VKD3D is OFF
wine-ge-8-26-x86_64

SO, anyone seen something like this and have a suggestion?
(please no "use Windows" snarks, they haven't been original in decades)

Thank you for your time

UPDATE:
in Lutris under the "Options", "Runner Options" for my FFXIV install I re-enabled DXVK and manually set it to use version 2.3.1. The version was originally set to "Default" so with each self update Lutris performed it would automatically used the newest DXVK version. I would appear that DXVK version 2.4.1 and FFXIV 7.5 do not get along.

After the setting change the client's graphics have been stable for over 28 hours of playtime in graphics intensive situations (dungeons and RAIDs).

Thank you to everyone who tried to help. To those who tried to reuse an incredibly old and lame joke I'm sure you can learn better lines from the big kids after you start Kindergarten.

Hi, I use the 'other' launcher (shows up as a proton option), which works with steam (and without steam services, if you bought the game on outside of steam). I haven't seen anything like what you're describing.

4060ti 590.48.01. Intel i5-9600K, leenix mint (ubuntu).

I used to have constant crashes when I played this game, then I upgrade my PSU (old one died) and somehow never crashed again, even though no other game that I played crashed. This game is weird :winter2019saddog:

lol, that it is. I've had more issues with FFXIV over the years than all my other games combined, but I enjoy the game so much it has been worth the aggravation getting it working :) I've played for a little over 8 years, kept a Win 7 box around just for FFXIV until SE stopped supporting that OS. I was already using Linux for everything else so I finally knuckled down and did all the WINE tweaks and Linux driver updates needed to finally ditch Windows. And I also didn't want to have to re-purchase all the licenses for a different platform.

This graphics issue first showed up with the 7.0 Dawntail expansion, probably related to the updated face models/textures. Before that the issues where just the usual black screen after login or other launcher hic-ups that could be fixed by editing a config file. Last time SE issued a hot fix a few days later that fixed the bug, I'm hoping history repeats but I'm not going to rely on it just in case.
just use windows lil bro
Why is your DXVK off?
Why are you on wine-ge instead of proton-ge?
There's also the custom launcher with XLCore and custom version of Proton with some fixes to try https://github.com/rankynbass/proton-xiv

in order;

DXVK is off because when it is on I get a black screen in my FFXIV client after I log in, followed by the client crashing with WINE reporting a ffxiv_dx11.exe error.

I'm using wine-ge because I am using Lutris to run the default FFXIV client from SE because all of my software licenses are for Windows. Using the Steam FFXIV client is not an option as I am NOT going to link my Square Enix and Steam accounts. I had a friend who did that 2 years ago and something completely FUBAR'd her SE account. She had to buy FFXIV+expacs a second time and set up a new SE account through Steam. Not a big deal for her as she has the money and had less than a month in the game. I have 8+ years invested in my FFXIV characters. I will not risk losing that.

If by "xlcore" your referring to the FFFXIV quick launcher flatpak with the integrated Dalmud modding engine I tried it. When I played the game would pause with zero FPS every 5-6 seconds so I've focused on the using the basic SE client. Personally I would prefer to use the QuickLauncher, I used it on my Win 7 system without Dalmud installed and it was actually better than the SE client, faster start and updating. But the only way to use the QuickLauncher on Linux is via the flatpak and that comes with Dalmud installed, which I don't want and it was the prime suspect for the the periodic FPS drop when I tried the flatpak back when Dawntrail went live. The only thing that prevents me from using the Quick Launcher with Lutris/WINE is the installer will not run as admin, which is what wine does by default, so try to use it with WINE and the FFXIVQuickLauncher installer exits with the message it won't run as admin. If I knew C# I'd fork the quicklauncher and strip out the admin check and Dalmud integration so I could use it with WINE, as it is I'm thinking about hiring someone to do that for me.

I would love to be using GE's Proton builds instead of their wine-ges, I use GE's stuff for all my Steam games but currently the only way I can use a non-steam game with Proton is either via the UMU game manager or running FFXIV as a non-steam game, witch doesn't work as the FFXIV launcher will detect steam and want me to link accounts. I've downloaded UMU and will be giving it a try as soon as I have time.

On the main issue I have made some progress on my current config. I re-enabled DXVK in lutris and manually set it to vr 2.1 which was the default I remember working great back when Dawntrail first went live. Haven't had any issues in 18+ hours so it looks like I have a fix. I'm currently testing DXVK 2.3.1, the latest that isn't 2.4 that seems to be the root of my problems, I'll update the opening of this thread if it turns out to be stable.

Easy problem fix is kick Linux away and use Windows.
