FINAL FANTASY XIV Online

10 Hours in and I gotta say this game is alright so far.
I have no MMO experience, and the closest thing to an MMO i've played is the Xenoblade Chronicles games, which has a heavy focus on sidequests to help you level up. I like to think I have a lot of patience for stuff like ARR as a result since a lot of the quests are similar to sidequests you'd find in Xenoblade as well as the fact that sidequesting also takes hours in the Xenoblade games, so I think im just used to it at this point.

For me, its not boring cause I'm playing it with the expectation of "Its gonna feel like I'm a pizza delivery guy for a bit" thanks to Jocats FF14 videos.

EDIT: I just realized that FF14 fans and One piece fans use a similar excuse of "Oh it gets good after (insert point)". I think thats kinda funny.

In the case of FFXIV the game is old, comes from a previous era of gaming in general, and its early expansions really shows that.
Especially once you get to the slog - the in-between quests after ARR MSQ that lead up to the second expansions.
If youre having fun doing the side quests though, more power to you! Theres a metric fragton of side quests to do, some of them even have decent rewards. They generally characterize the area youre in or even give breath t othe characters you interact with. Keep an eye out for more yellow quests as you progress through the MSQ - some areas get new quests multiple times, sometimes even the same NPC continues their own mini-plotline.

Remember to always do your blue quests, though. They almost always unlock something; A duty, a job, a game mechanic, or just a thing to do.

Wait till you're 1500 hours deep into this rabbit hole of side questing and farming achievements that should've been completed in the first 5 runs cause doing it 10 - 20 times yields zero extra benefit past the first 5.

Those achievements may be bugged, so you may have to use the steam achievement manager (its a program you can look up. Only use it for bugged achievements though)

I think a lot of folks underrate how many people enjoy the base content, lol. I'm not one of them, but I can see the appeal. I'd never try and sell someone on a game based on the premise of 'it gets better later', but I do think if you enjoy the base content, you'll have an even bigger blast with most later content.

I personally love ARR, but its certainly a slow burn for most of 2.0.

Fake account or not, he's kinda right. I dropped over 3k hours on this game on steam only (been playing a ♥♥♥♥ ton on PS4 back then) and I've seen the downfall of this game ever since EW. It's not what it used to be, different writers for dawntrail and the content has been well... kinda ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bad lately.

Its not saying ARR is bad, just that it gets better later, which is true and not really a surprise since with time devs improve on some aspects of the game, the lore included. I'm not sure how it is right now since they remade the main scenario but before that it was a slog to get through, had some friends stop playing because of that, too many quests to get to the "point" of the story. With other expansions they started adding more animations to cinematics, voicing, etc, I really don't think its much of a stretch to say it gets better later, nor that its cope.

Hey unrelated but I've been dealing with a lot of server DQs even though my internet is good. Have you dealt with that recently?

They get DDoS'd a lot. Almost weekly.
