FINAL FANTASY XIV Online

[PSA] Use the "FFXIVQuickLauncher" if you have issues with crashing on launch.
For many months now I have been unnable to play the game with Steam running, the game would just stay on a black screen and on click it would crash.
The only workaround I found was to force-quit steam using the task manager before pressing "Play" on the launcher. That was incredibly annoying so I just stopped playing for all those months and just left my sub running out. (180 days :zagsad: )
(The only "fix" that I found was to format and reinstall windows until the issue stops happening, but that is incredibly disruptive and I can't just do that without some serious headaches each time)

Turns out there is a way that is actually better than the game's native launcher.

Just use it instead of the native launcher and all issues are solved.

Wish I had known about it sooner, would have wasted way less sub time. :squirtmeh:

XIVLauncher supports the installation of plugins/addons made by third-party developers in-game.

Square Enix is going to love that one lol

Damn that's so cool

Are there any other cool programs like that? Other than Advanced Combat Tracker of course

Many programs use the XIVLauncher as a "base", they can be installed with it aswell.
There is also FFLogs, which allows you to upload your combat logs unto www.fflogs.com, where your performance can be ranked and you can get the info you need to get even better.

I myself use no plugin, but I know some who use it and I would totally use them if it would be legal.

There is also some really spicy stuff (basically cheats), upon which I will not elaborate further here.
Just know that any 3rd party program is illegal and can get you banned (realistically doesn't happen if you don't tell anyone)

As long as you never mention it in-game you will never get banned for running plugins. Same for running ACT for parsing.

same for mods too
I just wonder how people will use them if people will cheat with them or
or if they'll use it more like the plugins in Runescape launchers

ok, why on earth should you use the quicklauncher if you plan to play AST ... causes the normal launcher some sort of crashes/lags/other problems on that class? xD or is this just a meme which i dont get x3?

but yea, i would aswell recomment it. tho, be aware of it that SE could suspend you if they notice somehow that you use this launcher, i mean without directly telling them or streaming it will they not know tho. even if you dont intend to use dhalamud and its plugin support is the sole use of the launcher already a ToS break because of the 3rd party thing and the support of plugins etc.

I'm assuming they mean either mouse-over healing or noclippy for more consistant double weaving without clipping your GCD.

ooouuu :o iunno i never used those ones. but eh ... i only play sage as healer ... i play that class now as healer for so long already that i would probably fail to heal with any other healer class if i get thrown into a lv 90 dungeon and the tank goes instandly WtW xD.

Can confirmed this 100% fixed my issue, and I'd been dealing with it since 2022. I was using the steamapi edit workaround up until the most recent patch too. Don't think I'm ever going back to the default launcher after this, tbh.

Also, for Linux users, it's probably best to install xivlauncher through flatpak, apt via third party repository, or the AUR package on arch-based distros like Manjaro...

I don't even know if you can run FFXIV through Steam via just Proton, I don't think it worked too well for me for a while, you might be able to, but xivlauncher is so much better and it can hook into Steam so you can record all your hours and whatever else just fine anyway.

I have the same issue trying to launch/play FFXIV via Steam - it blows my mind that this is still a problem.

I used to have a workaround of renaming/deleting a certain file (steamapi64.dll) which many people suggested, but apparently that no longer works for me, as the launcher completely fails to open.

Going to give this a try and pray it works! I honestly regret ever purchasing FFXIV via Steam :'D
